For years I have been buying .22lr anytime it falls below $20/brick. Everything else I reload. No matter how much I have, it never feels like enough.
And regarding the OP, just about every good SHTF book out there address the fact that most gun owners only have a box or two of ammo at home. And I think it is the truth.
They shoot 5 rounds to sight in their rifle for hunting season, 1 or 2 bagging a deer and that leaves most of the box left for next year. If they have a pistol, they MIGHT shoot it once per year. If that's a whole box, it's a lot. They keep one box at home and pick up one box on the way to the range for their annual shoot.
I think the majority of the ammo lives with a minority of the gun owners.
I really hope a lot of guys buy ammo instead of depreciating crap in the future. Instead of doing a stupid stereo system or another gaming system buy ammo. It makes us all safer and more prepared.
