Watched Jack Ryan on Prime over the weekend-pretty good series !!
Love Better Call Saul. Great series.
I'm watching Jack Ryan now. Good enough to watch the series. If you want a chuckle, though, watch the first episode and pause it when Greer is looking at Ryan's DD-214. Kinda funny...if you're not military you probably won't get it.
Finally got around to watching "Ready Player One."
The Matrix - Philosophy + Pop Culture References = Ready Player One
Some of the visuals and set pieces were pretty good but the characters are all forgettable and the conclusions is mostly stupid.
One thing I noticed, even though the movie is chock full of references to other things in pop culture, Star Wars doesn't even get a nod. I choose to believe that this is because in the world of Ready Player One, no one likes Star Wars any more after everyone realized how horrible Episode 8 and Solo were.
I assume they didn't do a great job with keeping the movie close to the book. The book was all about video games and mentioned many of them. They couldn't mention Mario because of Nintendo's tight grip on that franchise. I don't see where Start Wars would have fallen into the story since it wasn't a video game. I thought the book was pretty good, but I can see how a lot of artistic license with the intent of reaching a larger audience (trading video game history for general pop culture) would confuse the plot and really water down the movie. Too bad.
There are still lots of video game references, specifically to old Atari games, but yeah, the movie relies heavily on other cultural touchstones.
I wonder what Neal Stephenson thinks of RPO, since it so clearly sources a lot of its ideas from Snow Crash.
Is that a book or movie, and is it recommended reading/watching?
You're kidding, right?
Nope. I can't possibly know about everything in the world.
