*slowly backs out of the thread, holding nose, and looking nervously around.*
Clearly I came in here at the wrong time...
Nah, my telescope doesn't look for asteroids. We look at the center of the Milky Way and further away at quasars and other objects. We don't look for puny, insignificant things like asteroids.
But a while ago, the 3.5m telescope had a program that woudl take control of the telescope and slew to the coords for a gamma ray burst or other phenomenon like that and start taking images. They got rid of the program though for some reason.
But for the record, I have seen two, thats right, TWO UFO's.
Sure, they were probably military vehicles operating out of Holloman AFB, but I couldn't hear any engines at all and they were moving in zigzaggy patterns, making very quick 90deg turns.
Haha, awesome! I'm sure they have a lot of really cool projects going on at Holloman, but also at White Sands Missile Range. My pre-marital counselor from our church was telling us about some of the things he worked on while working at WSMR, and let me tell you, they were really awesome sounding.

Care to give us the full details? [LOL]
And before you answer, that was a rhetorical question...
I've learned more about scat than I had ever anticipated I would this evening.
Eliminated the program that looks for Gamma ray bursts?
Well, I guess there's no need to watch for H bomb style radiation waves that would incinerate the entire earth within seconds.
I hope the guy that killed the program had a yummy doughnut instead.
Have I mentioned that I harbor no interest in going back to work tomorrow?
Just in case I've not......
I have no interest in going to work tomorrow. Bitch is, I need a paycheck, go figure.
Goodnight whores.
Peace
Yea, well, I know that chart has been posted here before too. Thats how I was introduced to it actually. There's a whole wikipedia page on it though if you're curious.
Yes, well sorta. There is a govt run program (or NASA) that searches the skies. When they detect a GRB, they send out an email and observatories around that email can slew to the coords and start observing or not. Some places do it automatically, in that when an email is received, the telescope immediately slews without the observer approving the slew.
I believe they actually have satellites that observe the earth looking specifically for ICBM launches and nuclear warhead detonations (probably xray though). Yes, the closest star is 4 light years away (alpha centauri) and if that went supernova, it could in theory emit a GRB, but I do not believe it is close enough to really affect us. Now if the sun went supernova, which it probably wont, then we're all screwed, so an early detection system wouldn't matter.
Goodnight otter.
And yes, that is common knowledge that NO ONE wants to go back to work on Mondays.
What's for breakfast?
Oh yea, and wax, I'm slowly but surely catching up to you... [Wiggle]

I'll vomit if I eat anything today.
4.7 mile run today... took a whopping 37 minutes.
I need to run faster.
Yep, I'm still here. My desk became cluttered with all kinds of papers, so I need to get that in check. I really dislike a cluttered desk.
just got back from lunch.
