A buddy of mine that is new to reloading called me yesterday afternoon in a panic. He was having serious issues priming 308 brass. Turns out the brass he bought at a gun show was GI brass and the crimped in primers were kicking his ass.
So he brought over about a thousand pcs of brass and after a short Dillon 101 class, he was swaging primer pockets and trimming brass on my 1050. As soon as they came out of the 1050 I gave them a little touch on my Giraud trimmer to deburr and chamfer the necks.
Two hours well spent.
I put my new 2lbs of WSF on the shelf. Quite pleased with myself. Complete list of what Cabela's Thornton had on the shelf is in the "powder sources" thread.

Finished the new bench and got it put in place

Funny... times o' slim pickins in the pistol powder world have forced certain folk into shootin' Unique. He's proud as a rut buck to admit he broke 135 power factor, but you'll notice that he doesn't shoot much anymore now that his gun has actual recoil and he has to take more than 2 steps to pick up his brass. [Tooth]
I'm just going to keep breaking his balls until he joins this forum.
Loaded up 100 or so rounds of .260 for Raton match this weekend.
started brass prep for a match next month. It's a 308 only match that has some pretty stringent rules. They are trying to test the shooter and get rid of the 'whiz-bang' calibers. here's the parameters: .308 Winchester with a 165-180 gr projectile going no faster than 2750fps. Other than that, get after it!

I have about 200 pieces of .260 Lapua brass that have loose primer pockets from a recent excess of enthusiasm. I cleaned, sized, and trimmed them. I'm shooting in the TB Team Challenge in a month, and I'd like to not spend time picking up brass on the clock. I'm going to see if I can find enough marginally tight pieces or maybe glue in some primers and then I'll just leave it lay on the ground after I shoot it.
I hope it's not a stupid idea...
Zach O has been gluing in primers for a while now with no obvious problems (except having to hammer the bolt open!) that I could see. I was worried about some flame cutting or whatever on the bolt face, but it doesn't appear to be an issue. I guess he uses nail polish to glue them in. It's a lot like the goop they use to seal up primers on mil ammo.
I just did a quick test with a few pieces and some success. With a pair of punches, one to go inside and support the case, and another just barely bigger than the primer pocket, I was able to produce a bit of a crimp like bur in the entrance of the pocket that holds the primer like fresh brass does. I figure that and a bit of nail polish from the dollar store and I should have some good one time use brass.
I'm such a dumbass. I didn't transfer my load data for my rem700 sps 308. I guess I need to order some more 150 gn SST's and use some more varget. Damnit.
Ladder loaded 308 hornady 150 gn SST with varget. Had to go with .4 gn increments because I don't have the time right now to do .2 increments. Hoping to find a load that's sub moa.
Found my 308 load... 100 yards.

Details?
Rem 700 308 sps varmint, 1:10 twist, factory trigger, leupold vx 3 6.5-20x40. Mixed 308 brass(no 7.62), winchester large rifle primer, 42 grains varget, 2.800 COAL. Next closest group was 1.25" with 44.5 varget. I have no clue on fps as I have no chrono.
Oh yeah 100 yards.
Cast about 400-500 215 gn Keith style bullets for my 41 mag and got about 300 of them loaded up. A nice easy going plinking load using Universal Clays.
Something to be said for commonality in guns... but I get it. I had Lizard rebarrel the hunting rifle to .338-06. Next time I want to neck down and do a 280 AI. So many micro-niches... so little time and money. [Coffee]
It really was fun smacking steel offhand at 200 this morning. Makes a steel plate sound like a gong.
Finally got around to running some subsonic 308 ammo over my chrono. I cut back one of my AR-PSR 308 barrels down to about 18 inches and I put my Thunderbeast can on the end.
A spoonful of Trailboss under a Sierra 175 goes about 1070fps and is incredibly quiet. Low ES/SD and accurate. Very happy with the combo.
Now I have something to do with all those 175 pulls I bought.
As far as I'm concerned, one needs no more justification than "it's fun".
I plugged in a 175 SMK into a ballistics calculator. Surprisingly, it only loses about 100 fps at 300 yards...
Put my two pounds of new Varget on the shelf in the Gun Cave! Big score at Cabela's in Thornton. I kept wiping my eyes, couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Sometimes when I'm all alone I like to sniff Varget.

Killed my RCBS Chargemaster last night/this morning. I didnt use it that much all in all, but it was handy to have on the bench for small batches of stuff when I did not want to screw with my Prometheus.
Error code 02009. Called RCBS and it turns out it is a fatal error. Being more than a year old they told me I was SOL. No biggie. I get that. Electronics die and they dont make them. They just stick their label on them.
Time to get a new one from Brownells.
