$1100 wont cover my families food expenses, four teenage and near teenage kids will eat a ton of food, they never seem to gain weight either, weird
if i were any where near qualifying for food stamps i would figure out a way to make due though. i guess i know where my tax dollars go now.
The tiny silver lining here is that at least this leech is blaming Obama and not Bush :p

What is the poverty line? That seems close or above the poverty line. It's over $13,000 a year.
I've been blessed to have never needed any kind of assistance. The one time I lost a job due to nothing of my doing, I found a better job within 2 weeks. One of my core values, instilled by my parents, is that you bust your ass to do for yourself.
Early in my adult life, when I had my first apartment after college and working an hourly job, I would at times have enough money to only eat once a day. In better times, I might be able to afford to buy a 1 lb. chub of ground beef (you know, the best parts they don't want to show you in clear plastic). The guy in front of me in line at the grocery checkout with food stamps? A-1 sauce, steak, steak, steak, steak..... It burns me up to think this low-life was buying a cart full of steaks on the taxpayers' dime, and didn't have the common decency to not ruin it with A-1.
Another tale from the grocery store... We had a guy come through the check out with 2 overflowing carts full (including the bottoms of the baskets...). He tells my manager to "stop around $600". My manager informs him that he's not going to make it. So the guy is sorting through his cart trying to decide what he deems is "important", and what needs to be put back. He gets down to half a cart of groceries (veggies, cheese, meat) and has "20 dollars" left. He puts back everything in the cart and hands him the 2 packages of oreos, a bag of candy, and 2 bags of chips.
He spent 600 in food stamp money (which is tax exempt btw) and got nothing healthy. (I know because I was bagging it all).
I mean, I am a picky eater and I have a LOT of food allergies (including a lot of fruits and veggies), but even with that in mind, I just couldn't imagine filling TWO entire carts (if we had checked/bagged the rest of the cart, he would have had 3 full carts) with nothing but junk food. I just can't imagine.
