It's been stupid hot. Our AC runs 24/7, and the best it can do with these 92+ degree days is about 82-86. We really need to get a new unit installed, but sadly, it's not in a high priority money-wise.
Dammit.

About the part of unit that is outside- If it isn't in the shade put some shade on it. Even an umbrella can make a difference. Misting water on the outside heat exchange coils can help a lot too.
Check the air filter.
As a side note check the cabin air filter on you car too.
Visualize ice cubes or a nice cool waterfall. Hang the picture on your window that you took of the snow out side last winter.
Just some thoughts. Hang in there.
You're really just wasting money at this point. With no A/C, my house stays at about 80, even on the hottest of days. If we are at home and are doing things like cooking or have all the windows open it will get a little hotter. Need to have your system checked, but no point in having it run 24 hours a day since it's not really doing anything for you.
It was 104 degrees with 65% humidity today where I am, I can't wait to get back to Colorado heat.
The AC unit is from 1988. I change out our filter every month, because we have many cats and a metric ton of dust.
I hosed off the outside of the condenser unit last week, but I'l do it again today. We've got a nice screen of chokecherries that offer shade over the unit, but it still gives off a lot of heat.
I called three different service men to come and take a look at both our AC unit and our furnace, and each one of them blew us off. One kept rescheduling and then finally said "find someone else." The others didn't even bother showing up. Bastards.
I do try to keep it off during the day while hubby is at work- we have a lot of fans. But these past few days have had little to no breeze, and it's been scorching, inside and out. I'm very thankful for the trees we have that provide some shade and protection from the elements...but I do wish we could have some of the rain that Minnesota has been getting.
Thank you all for your suggestions!
I can't do heat indoors, if it's over 70 it's too hot inside.
