That reminds me of my experience in summer 1996 or 1997 hiking in behind the Carnage Canyon area in Lefthand Canyon. I was walking along when I heard revving motor noises and "beep, beep, beep...". To my surprise, around the corner appears a flat bed wrecker backing-up the road. I follow him for a bit when he stops next to a wide spot. In the ravine below laid a 1995 Honda Passport that had barrel-rolled down the hill. Turns out the owner, earlier in the year, had driven back in there when things were a bit "soft". He pulled into the wide spot and parked, getting out of the vehicle to explore. While gone, his outside wheels collapsed the dirt beneath them and pitched the Passport down the hill. It wasn't a ball of mush like the JK shown above, but every body panel was deformed and windows busted. Even being that new, the tow truck operator said the insurance company had totaled it, and they were extracting it per Forest Service orders.

The most shocking thing was that it DID NOT have any bullet holes yet...

I got a laugh once at a group of teenagers in a very brand new looking Wrangler stalled out in the middle of a deep creek with water running up over the hood.

I imagine mom and dad were going to be a little upset with the kids for sucking enough water into the engine to kill it.

I saw a kind gentleman in a Tacoma who was going to winch them to dry land but I don?t know how they were going to get it towed back to civilization.

Never seen a vehicle tumbling down the side of a mountain though. I heard it?s more common than you would think up around Silverton and Ouray.

The very first trail I ever drove was Middle St Vraine and one of my buddies (an occasional poster on here) ran through the water on top fast enough to suck it into the intake and grenade the motor. We had to tow him out and he hitched a ride with me all the way down to Castle Rock.

The decent on Red Cone was one of the scariest I've done. So bad ass.

We are definitely in an era where someone can watch a few Youtube videos from "influencers", and think themselves ready for any challenge. I had 10 years of off-road driving before even contemplating the Ouray/Telluride passes, plus a proper vehicle- NOT a cute ute.

I wish my Trooper had that many air bags. It's just got the two driver side ones that I know about.

Maybe it has some you don?t know about. You should roll it down a mountain and check.

It's bound to happen sooner or later. Just hope my family isn't there.

What are you doing Saturday?

It was a Bronco Sport. They started going up the wrong way, tried to turn around, got too tippy and down it went, ejecting the driver, the dog and the engine!
