I find it sad and ironic that I can own a Tavor SAR, or a Jericho 941, but the Israeli citizens literally living in a war zone couldn't.

How is an attack this big and complicated even possible without someone in Israeli intelligence asleep on their post? This was a major failure of intelligence (what can I say, I'm a retired Army intel guy, that's where my mind goes first.)

Funny thing about Gaza, before the 1967 six-day war, it was part of Egypt. After the peace agreement in the 1990's, Israel offered it back to Egypt and they said "Oh, HELL no, we don't want it!"

There's no way in hell they didn't know. They may not have known how extensive, or where the entry points were, or anything about the use of paragliders, but they certainly got multiple tips about a major offensive.

Either someone disregarded those tips, or higher ups decided to let it happen as justification to hammer Gaza harder than they've ever been hammered before.

Palestinians regularly and randomly murder Israeli citizens and fire barrages of shitty homemade rockets over the wall and launch fire balloons, but Israel has shown remarkable restraint, in large part due to international blowback... now they are free to drop every bomb they have, should they so wish. Cutting off electricity and water while closing the border and bolstering the naval blockade will probably have more impact than the bombs... but that's what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you. Gangraping tourists and beheading babies was the icing on that cake... they lost whatever sympathy they had from the rest of the world for showing who they truly are.

I'm convinced, the attack was bait. Muslims sacrificed Gaza and it's millions of people to trigger a larger war. Israel has no choice but to turn Gaza to dust, despite knowing full well it doesn't end there.
