Probably hoping that his country would lose, and whoever was the winner would then come in and help them. They've got a massive military, right? Man, what if that military all got on the same page, and turned against their government? Best thing that could ever happen to NK.

Someone on here posted some awesome video documentary last year where some guys sneaked into North Korea. It was awesome and eye opening. If you see it, you feel bad for the people of NK like Rondog.

She was a North Korean Agent and was captured by South Korea after she and her partner blew up a South Korean airliner killing 85 people. This is a Non-Fiction book and very very good. It can be hard to find, but worth the read if you can get a hold of it. It discusses a lot of your post from the viewpoint of an ex-patriot of N. Korea. Very powerful stuff.

They have a massive military, but it's grossly malnurished and unsupported with decent equipment. Based on the info I had access to when stationed there, I suspect any war will last less than a month. Most of the N. Koreans will stop fighting if the get past the border. Koreans are amazingly generous with food as it's part of their culture to do so. Starving masses of soldiers would get fed as long lost family members. It's hard to hate that kind of empathy and it's even harder to overlook it in comparison to the NK propaganda.

The people of NK starve at the whim of a mad man, and they have no idea how the outside world holds no ill will against them but only their government.

I think I saw part of that. Was there a scene where a peasant woman came walking into view and saw the Westerners, then dropped her stuff and ran like hell in terror, like she thought they were gonna gut her and eat her?

No. There is a scene where they went to a hotel that was all but deserted, and they kept setting out all this food for the "banquet" that was going to start any second. They waited and waited and no one ever showed up. So when they were done, they just took all the food and put it back in the kitchen because it was all for show. Every single shot made the country look like a ghost town. Imagine going to downtown Denver at 12 noon and there not being a single car on the street. That's what NK looks like.

That's what NK's capital looks like. It is a false front designed to be used when catering to outsiders to hide the detritus.

Oh yeah, I think I posted this here before, it's the video described above. Did you know Seoul is a city of 20 million people within conventional artillery range of the DPRK?
