In almost every situation the roads are gonna be clogged with abandoned cars, being natural disaster, or uprising or outside invasion. And if you do get on the road you would be a highly visible target. Or the super volcano thing, thats gonna hurt! Best to move out quick on foot if possible to a closer location in the hills, then reassess at a later time, higher ground is the way to go. Problem with being unwheeled is finding a place to stash your long term supplies.

My thought is that if you bug in, your chances of escape get lower everyday as there are fewer people moving and targets are easier to spot? Most of us here know how it works out in the end for the ones who stick around cities. Eventually they come for you!

I do agree with the take from those who choose not to defend themselves theory. If it comes down to me or them, I will see my kids that night!

Yeah, but I bet there'll be a shitload more abandoned cars than you think or have time and ability to address, too. ;)

I'm Thinking, you stop off at the local CDOT yard, Grab a Big-ass Plowtruck and Run the middle line between cars.
Trick will be to get a running start and provide lots of cover-fire.

The nice thing there are those amongst that could implement this plan.....Tandem with a 14' plow and the wing. It would actually have a certain entertainment value
