It is supposed to out perform the 2012 V8 Chevy Caprice... the fastest American police car... even faster than the old Camaro BC4 pursuit units.

The Carbon Motors E7 sounded good when GM discontinued the Caprice and Ford Discontinued the Crown Vic, but now with their replacements about to hit the streets, I doubt that Law Enforcement budgets will let them import the BMW piece with it's relatively pricey per unit cost compared to their American counterparts.

I would assume that taxpayer dollars are used to buy the cars. As far as the revenooers statement, all the "officers" in Colorado, and I'm sure in other states, have orders to generate revenue by giving as many tickets as possible in order to "shore" up the general funds of their respective counties, hence the "revenuers" reference. I have never in all my time in this state (colorado native 58 yrs) ever seen so many cops hiding in so many places, generating ticket revenue. I saw 10, yes, ten motorcycle cops and 4 cars on I-70 and I-76 junction a week or so ago. That's 14 units!!! Now tell me that ain't about revenue enhancement. They are hiding on every highway and street, and they don't need expensive sports cars to do this job. Also if there is a REAL criminal on the run, I'm sure there would be a helicopter in pursuit. How many crooks use a car that would outrun the common police cruiser, what 1% maybe? That does not justify the cops driving around in those high dollar sports cars.

these were the original "bad" police cars with raw v8 power. my dad has a poster of a lambo they they dressed up to look like a csp car and sold to raise money for charity, i'll get a pic of it later this week and post it up.

There are very few departments (if any) that give "orders" to write as many tickets as possible. You watch too much tv if you think helicopters are standard pursuit tools. By your logic high performance police cars are a waste of tax payer money but a million dollar, oh I don't know, Bell 206, is tax money well spent....yeah, ok...that makes sense. Lots of people hit the gas when they see the red and blue lights behind them and those people need to be caught IMO. There are in fact MANY cars on the road that can outrun a common police cruiser and they are available for criminals to use too. In my family's LE experience, the amount of BGs with fast cars that required an interceptor "sports car" unit was far more than 1%.

By your logic the police shouldn't have rifles either, right? Because how many bad guys use rifles? A very small percentage. And because the cops statistically won't run into more firepower they don't need it either. Cops should only have bare-bones, stock cars and handguns. And not Glocks...those cost too much...give them Hi Points.

my dad retired in 2002 I can recall most of those cars except for the last one, in the driveway once or twice.

I call B.S. on your story that cops aren't told to write as many tickets as they can to bolster the coffers of their counties. Making them "revenue agents". What? The cops all of a sudden noticed there were this glut of accidents, and so then they all decided they needed to hide behind every pole, bush, and under every overpass in the shadows with revenue enhancement agents, enmasse on every highway only because they are doing this for "highway safety"? Yeah right, sell it to someone who will buy. Don't even try to tell me the "staties" don't have the use of, or own, a chopper that is used for other things besides chases. As for the rest, well I'm glad you finally understand.

To my knowledge the CSP does not have any helicopters. They only list airplanes on their website and they do use those to run speed checks.

But if they did it would be based in Denver and have a limited range. It's a big state.

So what about criminals running from the police in other parts of the state? Durango, Craig, Sterling? No way the Denver based aircraft will get there in time. The BGs get away if the police can't keep up in cars.

So again, by your logic, let the criminals that can out-run the police get away because faster police cars cost too much OR pursue them with million dollar helicopters.

You don't have to search Google too hard to find story after story of police departments around the country selling their aircraft...even though they are already making tons of revenue writing tickets while hiding in the bushes. [LOL]

It really is silly that you think helicopters are the more economical way to pursue criminals running at high speed.

The CSP doesn't have any helicopters; they do have a couple of fixed wing planes that are used primarily for traffic enforcement. My agency has used their planes on occasion to transport people quickly to different parts of the state as needed.

Denver is the only agency right now in Colorado with a Ghetto Bird. CSPD had to sell their two due to financial issues and there are no plans in which to buy anymore. I don't know of any agency right now who has a future plan to buy any birds, given the economy and budgets.

Most agencies have a traffic unit, who is responsible for traffic accidents and traffic enforcement. Those are the guys/gals seen en masse somewhere working enforcement. You don't usually see normal patrol guys out working traffic like that (this is agency dependent). Too busy answering calls. The traffic units mission usually is to reduce traffic accidents through enforcement. If you have a stretch of roadway where there are a lot of accidents related to speed, you work speed there for a time and miraculously, the accident rate falls.
