There are many many many more ways to help our country and our service men/women than by signing-up. Not that its a bad option - but don't limit yourself to thinking you have to pull a trigger to make a difference. One great way you can help is to volunteer your time on base teaching classes or mentoring folks who want to learn what you have to say (you have a degree in computer security and that is a highly sought after skill right now). Help put on career events.. Get your employer involved with military hiring.. There are a thousand things you can do. All you really need to do is just ask.

That said - if you want to skew your career slightly you can always turn your talents to helping the DoD. Lots of contractors hiring, lots of work to be done. You would be surprised at the amount of good you can do without putting on a uniform.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. Although, I only have two Associate degrees so I don't think I'd qualify for Officer enlistment. With the Guard I admit I'm nervous about the possibility of being ordered to take part in disarming my fellow Americans, especially going the equiv of infantry. Maybe it's unwarranted, but it's kind of a lingering fear. I may head over to the NG recruiter in the next couple weeks and see what's up. Thank you for the input, fellas.

When I got my HD Veteran plates I took out my 214 to show them and they said "Oh you don't need that " WTF !!!!

Although I'm not (nor have I ever been) assigned to any sort of special unit, I get a special angry feeling in the pit of my stomach when I see the stupidity displayed by the poser in that video.

I do agree with TeamLeader, though. There are ways to be intimidating without yelling, screaming, swearing, cursing, etc.

I agree... As a modern-era 10th Mtn vet I don't like the plates, personally. I don't have them on my car, but I do have a 10th Mtn sticker... I keep my Army plates for now.

i didnt mean that the plate was bullshit. only having it and not having earned it.

Hound - I think you may need to gear down buddy. You're talking shit about people who you have no idea what their background is. A few people who have disagreed with you in this thread are true vets and it's for that reason they feel no need to get in a dick measuring contest with you. They are proud, honorable men who don't need to prove themselves to people on the internet. They may disagree with you but they are not going to disrespect you simply because of your opinion. I didn't serve but I'm willing to bet these same guys developed that high level of respect for others because of their service.

They may not need to prove themselves to you but I will certainly not keep my mouth shut while you disrespect them.
