If you listen to the context, I think he is actually making a case against racism. But the sound byte is fodder for ADD, Headlines only, America.
Let me revise that, he is making the case against big government cultivating an environment where blacks and Latinos are kept under thumb and made dependent on government.
I wasn't that impressed by Bundy so am not surprised if he really said something that inarticulate but I'm also not going to take anything written by the NYT on blind faith. The Bundy Ranch standoff always seemed to me as both sides in the wrong -- the larger issues are 1) inappropriate/illegal government conversion of private or state property, 2) corrupt influences in government (i.e., the Reid effect), and 3) inappropriate government use of force.
Were the BLM's actions in forcing ranchers off land and making them agree to give up codified rights appropriate and legal? Is there any justification for the "desert tortoise" conservation area given the population and BLM's own actions in killing "excess" tortoises? What exactly is Sen Reid's connection to the case and is there probable cause for an investigation for corruption and misuse of his office? Should the BLM Director be fired for maladministration, corruption, or just outright incompetence? Why exactly does BLM need its own SWAT force rather than calling on local sheriffs or PD to enforce regulations?
After we get solid answers on those questions, I'd be happy to look into whether Bundy legitimately owes the taxpayers reasonable fees and place a lien on his property and income if he does. In the meantime, don't let the NYT, WashPost or other liberal groups pull the wool over our eyes.

What he said does not cancel out, and in fact has nothing to do with, the Fed's illegal land grab or Reid's treasonous activities.
What he said makes him an idiot, because the popular perception, exaggerated by the Lefty media, will be that he is a racist. The conversation has become centered around something completely irrelevant and there will be no turning it back. Every politician and high-profile public group who supported him before over the land grab, will now distance themselves from him because of this stupid shit that fell out of his mouth. He effectively alienated most of his support base.
