I understand both sides of the deal but mods can we forgive and forget? I mean we have all had a hard couple years and between the obamanator slowly taking this country to hell in a hand basket, The economy and debt ceiling, atf's in ability to handle anything as well as sending our gun to drug dealers south of the boarder, braking my arms and now byte getting banned "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HOW MUCH MORE CAN WE TAKE! Hopfully we will see him again and we can put this behind us.
[Salute]
More like 30 days. Unless it is outright stupidity not a single mod wants to ban anybody. For the most part we let the members post whatever they want within the context of the Forum.
The thread was the 3rd one on the same subject and the other two had been closed when the comments went south as they always seem to do.
Almost every "bad cop" thread has this stupid "pile on" mentality that seems to get some members whipped into a frenzy like a bunch of 14yo boys at a centerfold signing.
The actual posting of links to news items is not the problem. It is the degradation of the thread from "yes he did a bad thing" to "all pigs should die" in 3 pages or less.
As has been pointed out this is not a democracy. It is a private forum that is bought and paid for by people not the electoral collage.
There have only been a few members banned over the years and most are temporary ones unless something grave has happened. Even Mods have been banned when they have done the wrong thing.
I do hope this clears up some confusion. :)
Devils advocate: This forum is ran just like any other form of government, it has rules and people who make sure you follow them, follow the rules or get punished. It is a privilage to be on a forum, not a right so to say. This is a privately owned domain and therefore we must follow the rules set by those who govern this place. If you don't like it. Leave.
However, I think even for saying that someone should be shot in his context and getting booted for it (even for a little bit) is a little over the top. I like this forum and the people in it, but I think for something so little to have such a punishment especially since it was more than likely not meant in such a harsh way..... Ah screw it, why try to explain, those of you who get it, get it. Those of you who don't more than likely never will mostly due to stubbornness. In the end I just don't want to see this forum turning into some kind of fluffy liberal ran crap thing. We have all been able to express ourselves pretty comfortably, changing that like everything else is around us will suck. I personally am one of the "if you can't handle it, stay the f*#k away", but I guess that goes both ways.
I usually agree with Byte on most things, but on this one I would have to agree with the mods (sorry Byte). I just read the post in question and I can understand why the mods have taken the steps they have. We all need to remember that while we utilize this forum to express our opinions, there are some things that just shouldn't be said. I see two reasons that his post was taken as stepping over the line:
1) The comment made could lead to legal issues for the forum if it was an allowed practice, possibly even liability issues if something were to happen and the person was to reference the comment here.
2) We are all (most likely) gun owners, or at least supporters of gun rights, and this forum is a place where we can discuss guns and the issues we as gun owners face today. The comment in question adds fuel to the anti-gun cabinet and those that think all of us own guns with the intent of looking for trouble.
To sum it up:
Will Byte be missed on the boards? Yes
Do I like that Byte has been banned? No, but I completely understand why and think the mods were within their rights in doing so.
This is a privately owned forum, and we all need to show some respect to those that are providing it for us as a meeting place to discuss something that we are all passionate about. Let's not take take it to an extreme that could eventually lead to the owners of the site deciding that it's no longer worth it.
I agree byte is a awsome guy and i personally owe him for helping me whrn i needed. I dont wish a ban on anybody lol I would go crazy.
