I really did enjoy watching Tebow play. But, when it comes to passing and reading the D... Manning is hands down better than Tebow.
I do think Tebow will be a good QB though. He's got the drive and the will. He will learn and he will be good. Just not as good as a QB the likes of Manning and Elway.
I also enjoyed watching him and I routed for him when he was in Bronco's orange. I think he can get better but I don't think he will ever be a good QB in the NFL. He just doesn't have what it takes which is something you can't teach. There's a reason that great college QBs never amount to anything in the NFL.. it's just a different game. It requires a massive amount of intellectual power and most don't have it and I think Tebow fits into this category. He's a nice enough kid with a phenomenal amount of drive but that's just not enough in the NFL. You either have it or you don't. IMO Tebow doesn't have it. I do think he's a great athlete and can make a heck of a contribution to whatever team he's on I just don't see him taking a team to the SuperBowl as a starting quarterback.
I think the correct question is would the Bronco's be better with Tebow and 25 million dollars worth of other players they could have added with the money they spent on Payton. Clearly Tebow is not as good of a passer but would the team be better?
The easy answer to that question is no. Who wants to come to Denver to play with Tebow? Wide receivers were scrambling to get OUT of here once he got the start just like they will do the same in NY if/when he gets the nod there. On the other hand, quality veterans have come to Denver just because Manning signed. If they do well this year (which I predict) you will see a massive amount of quality veteran players willing to come to Denver for less money to have a chance at winning a ring. This same scenario has played out time and time again across various sports. I still like my odds with a Peyton Manning vs a Tim Tebow in your question.
No, a quarterback is expected to pass, you can't expect to run a option offense that they had with tebow and have any sort of longevity with it. Building Tebow into a passer would've taken years, and the broncos needed a quarterback 5-7 years ago. The broncos will be more competitive this way. The chemistry will come as soon they can understand Peyton at quarterback. I like Tebow but don't tell me this team is better off with Tebow than we are with Manning.
