The storm naming is the Weather Channel, not NOAA. NOAA is specifically distancing itself from it and has advised the NWS to NOT use the storm names.

Also, this can and has happened in Colorado. I remember all roads being closed in Colorado Springs after a major storm in 98ish.

We also close I-25 in bad weather. A friend of mine was trying to get home from Denver to Colorado Springs when I-25 was closed. He was following a snowplow and got ticketed and sent back.

Correct, it isn't uncommon for Colorado to close some sections of interstates or some state highways during big storms. Banning driving (in other words, ALL motorized travel EDIT: Maybe snow machines are OK...I don't know) all together statewide is an entirely different ballgame and IMO can't possibly be legal. But, those folks that live over there don't mind the government telling them what to do so that's their problem. But it becomes everyone's problem when that mentality spreads.

Again, I definitely the remember the City of Colorado Springs shutting down all travel after we got a particularly big storm. I think it was 98 but am not 100% certain on the year. It does happen and can happen here.

Don't know about statewide, but the state could certainly shut down all state and Interstate highways. Seems unlikely though - Colorado is big enough that the conditions differ across the state.

It was October of '97. My dad was in-state from MO out in the middle of nowhere elk hunting ~Kremmling.
