The liquor stores in Idaho are operated by the state (funny thing...they call them "dispensaries"). Occasionally they hold a lottery for rare or hard-to-get items...like Pappy Van Winkle bourbons and such. Still waiting to get picked for one of those. A few weeks ago I threw my hat into the ring for a drawing of some unusual bourbons...not rare, but rare here. I got a call today that I was selected for this one. Haven't tried it yet...but I will later tonight. Never had a 20 year old bottle of anything!

Another lottery score...except this one is really good and not overpriced. I'd place this as one of my top three....Buffalo Trace holding fast to first place, this and Bulleit are neck and neck for second place. This one has lots of flavor and a bite.

Do you like Eagle Rare Bailey?
-
Yeah. Only had one bottle. It's from the Buffalo Trace distillery, too (I'm sure you know that), just like the EH Taylor. So far, I like everything I've tried from that distillery. On the other hand, I probably don't have a very sophisticated palette. It either tastes good to me, or it doesn't. I read some of these descriptions from guys about "hints of caramel, white pepper and old, dusty leather" and I feel like a dumbass. Then again, I've never tasted old, dusty leather.

"Lottery score" = saw it and tried it?
We have similar tastes in bourbon.

No...I'm over that phase unless it's something unusual. [09]
The liquor stores here are state-owned and hold monthly lotteries for allocated or hard to get items. See post #651.

Never saw single malt Irish Whiskey before. Not bad.
