I live about three miles from Bert so it wouldn't be terribly inconvenient or expensive to have a barrel installed and chambered.

Still researching stuff. But now I'm even more undecided. Started looking at bolt rifles in 260 and 6.5 Creedmoor.
Way too much cool stuff out there that would fit my needs.
I think I did narrow down my optics choices though. Probably go with something in first focal plane with a mil-type reticle and mil adjustments.
I like where you're going. I have a .260, and am sold on FFP mil/mil scopes, makes the math much easier for my brain. You're welcome to test drive the rig anytime. The only downside (for me, since I don't reload yet) is that .260 match ammo is hard to come by.
Thanks for the offer, Jeff. [Beer]
I'm already rethinking the 260 though. Not only would I have the investment of the rifle, optics, etc. but I'd also have to round up dies and components to load for it as well. The 223/5.56 guns make more since because I already have everything I need to get loading right away.
This must be what it feels like to be a woman. Not being able to make up my mind and all.

Come one Ray, what's taking you so long. My rifle came today. Vortex Viper 6 24x50 due next week and the XLR is 4/5 weeks out.
A 223 bolt gun is cool (I have a Bighorn Action 223 Ackley/300 Whisper switch barrel) and very fun to shoot, but past a few hundred yards the low BC of the 75 and 80 gn bullets start to suck.
A 6mm or 6.5 mm something is much more enjoyable to shoot, low recoil with high BC bullets.
Hmm. A 6.5 Grendel might be an option I need to look into.
I love my 6mm, just got a 6mm creed for my DTA. You don't have to run barrel burners
