It can, but condition of roof and quality of shingle play a big role in that quarter size range. IMO, that's about when damage starts on a composition shingle. Those pictures of the near baseball sized stuff is where it starts to not matter what kind of composition shingle you have.
If your siding is aluminum, that's understandable for sure. If your siding is steel, then you'll have roof damage.
So, if I have dents in my truck that look like someone took a ball peen hammer to it then perhaps my new roof didn’t fare too well?
Well, cars are a lot softer than asphalt shingles, but you certainly could have something going on up there. How difficult is it to climb up and take a look? I'd offer to do it, but I just got back into town and have to leave again so I'm not available.
There are probably resources on the web as to what composition shingle 'bruising' looks like. You might want to know what to look for before you get on the roof. If it were me, I'd also be checking the pipe boots on the roof penetrations for damage. Vent caulking seals are something that have also bitten me in the past.

Lost the sunroof on the Mamamobile, a couple good dingers in the hood of my truck.

As for the aerodynamics of your dimpled vehicle...how often do you use backspin? Have you ever hooked or sliced on the way to your job? I have heard of turning hail damage dollars into firearms. That's almost like alchemy.
