i have no doubt that there are people out there that cant make ends meet, but i think most people are not there yet. with this president and congress you will need to make changes now as it is only going to get worse in the next 6 to 9 months.

My power was shut off. Its still off any were are going into the 4th day. I have to pay a judgement now against a former roomate that trashed my apartment then wanted his deposit back. And instead of me collecting the money I was out I have to pay them. There is no food in the house not that we could cook it. And I think we are getting a bug problem. Nope things couldn't be better for me since unemployment insurance ran out. I don't have cable but my brother who is working put me on his friends and family plan for $10 a month so I have phone in case one of those employers calls. My women left me after she tried to kill me.
Yep things are going great!!

I feel for people but I also see many jobs go unfilled and see those that will not take work that is "below them".

At my house no work is below me, I will do what needs to be done and go where I have to go.

I travel to North Dakota for work often, we can not find local help so we fly out of Denver. We have tried to source locals but the unemployment rate in ND is under 5% and most everyone who wants to work has work.

You walk thru Minot or Dickenson and Help Wanted signs are everywhere. I tell this to my unemployed brother-in-law but he will not move because despite being without a job for close to 2 years he still wants that Califorinia lifestyle.


I think that most of the time you make your own luck.

I've reduced cell phone, and don't have to pay for internet. Good luck trying to land a job with no phone or email though. Last time I was laid off I went around town showing up to places in person. Every single place I went was always the same story, "You have to go to our website and apply there."

Looking for a job is certainly rough, especially if you primarily look in your field of expertise. Fortunately, companies are starting to hire again in my line of work, but there are so many unemployed people out there, that it's not much easier to get in. I applied at this company back in 2008 and was contacted and set up for an interview. It was pretty standard procedure, I never saw any other applicants at all. I've applied with the same company again (and am more qualified for the job this time thanks to all the training I put myself through), and when I showed up, it was an open house with three pages of name tags and groups of 10-15 people at a time.

Wow, I read this stuff and it kills me. My heart goes out to you guys, it really does.

but, there are alot of people out there that wont take a job "cause it doesnt pay enough". maybe that is true, but is it better to take a job for $400 per week, or stay on unemployment for $350 per week? i have seen alot of people complaining about having their power shut off, and GM calling to take their car back, but the person i am talking about still has money for cigarettes, marijuana, his wife wont go out and get any kind of job, he still has cable tv. take a look at the things you can LIVE without, TV, internet, cigarettes, beer, unnecessary trips to town, ammo, etc... i have bought beer maybe 3 times since christmas (believe me i like my beer), i have cut down the trips to town to ONLY when necessary. i dont have ANY of my machines insured, if a fire were to go through here i would lose hundreds of thousands of dollars, but i cant afford $4 per day to insure my sawmill, not to mention the skidder, skidsteer, firewood processor, edger, delivery truck and inventory.
we have to make choices, which choices you make says alot about you.

I don't know the situation of the folks posting here but my hope is that they have done those severe cuts. I also know people that are in big trouble but they would rather hold out for their career job than work at the pizza joint. I figure something is better than nothing, but that's me. I've been self employed for a very long time and I remember in the early days when I was down pretty bad and cut everything I could - even power - to stay alive, taking side jobs where possible as long as I was able to keep doing my thing. It worked out very well in the end.

I forgot to mention that there has been no shooting or spending on ammo.

I think it isn't a big deal hold out for a better job at first, but only in say the first six months, and only if you are actively interviewing with someone else.

I totally agree, you live for as long as possible to hold out, but when TSHTF you have no choice but to stop holding out, it would seem.

I couldn't wait until this year to be eligible for the Aspen Park Pass $30 and go out to Cherry Creek for some extra shooting time. Can't afford either one now.

I've gone on one shooting trip this whole year and I was pissed that my fuckstick brother shot up all my .22's. I was hoarding those.
