The FAL mags took the worst of the damage, little spots of surface rust here and there. They're all disassembled and soaking in CLP in the bathroom sink.
The FAL had a couple spots on the muzzle brake where the paint's been blasted off, but it wasn't too hard to clean off.
The G21 and it's mags had no rust (gee, what a suprize). The 10/22 is all stainless and aluminum so no rust there.
The oddball was the mossberg. Quite visible on the trigger was surface rust, particularly on the right side (presumably where finish was warn off by my finger). It cleaned off well enough and there wasn't any on any of the other parts so that's good.
But everything's all clean and the cases are hanging over the shower curtain rail drying out. Some of the ammo boxes may not make it, so I'll have to figure something out there.
Oh, and I've nearly regained 100% hearing in my right ear, though if I plug it it's ringing a little bit.
I got quite a bit of rust on the AK and one of the mags. Neither the 1911 or the XD got any.
What is the best way to get the rust off of the AK?
more rust and call it a new finish :)Quote:

I wouldn't expect the XD to get any, they're pretty much the same as Glocks, finish-wise.
The AK.... Well, Here's what I did for the FAL magazines:
Strip, spray with CLP, scrub with plastic brush (don't want to take off more finish) and let soak with CLP. Later tonight or tomorrow or sometime I'll scrub them some more with more clp and then wipe down and reassemble. I dunno what I'll do to touch up the finish to keep it from happening again, but this should take care of it for now.
Should you have a readily available way to refinish, I suggest using an old bore brush or other bronze brush to take the rust off as it'll go a lot quicker.
