Never quite understood smoking, it stinks, your stink from it and it kills you. Hell it even tells you the latter on the box!
People should show some common sense and not smoke in an enclossed space with their kids. But there again the fact that they are smoking in the first place shows a lack of common sense?
I'm just one guy, but when I was growing up my dad smoked everywhere - car, house, etc. I was always around smoke. I hated it. Of course back then it was acceptable since so many smoked.
When I got out of college I got a job dealing with hazardous materials and had to get a super thorough physical, including a lung test, every year. It tested lung capacity and stuff.
I was ALWAYS way above average. I just don't buy into the second hand smoke kills deal.
It still isn't cool to smoke around kids like that though. It certainly can't be good, only bad. Douches...
I HATE when people make second hand smoke out to dangerous like radiation or something. It is completely ridiculous and untrue. Smoking in an enclosed vehicle though, is much closer to just having the baby smoke. In an enclosed space, the smoke can't get away and it builds up.
One time on NPR, they played a clip of some guy who said something along the lines of the following....
"We've found that second hand smoke is actually MORE DANGEROUS than first hand smoke, because when people smoke, they only absorb around 5% of the smoke. That means the people around the smoker are actually breathing in 95% of the smoke!"
I nearly had a stroke from hearing so much stupid crammed into one sentence.
This is it exactly, somewhere sometime somebody isn't going to agree with the way you live your life. And want to ban or regulate the things you hold dear, and then what? If they get enough people to agree with them, or people in power to agree, then what ever you love could be taken away from you.
I feel sorry for those kids.
