Ford, Dodge, Chevy....GO!!

I love my 04.5 GMC Duramax which has around 128K. Watch out for the transfer case clip that breaks and cost you $2400 for a new transfer case. If I were to buy a new one, I think I would go with a Ford. Just a personal thing, but they didn't take the handout like the others did. They apparently know how to manage money. A few of my friends have picked up the 2012 Powerstroke's and are really liking them. Most don't have more than 10K miles on them, but so far so good.

which is exactly why I have a nice pile of cats, dpf filters, and even an egr cooler, all with less than 500 miles on them in my garage, it seems every time I buy a new diesel I hit a bump on the way home and the exhaust just falls off?[shit-happens]

The cummins is a medium duty diesel while the duramax and powerstrokes are both light duty that means longer intervals between rebuilds with a cummins also the inline 6 design builds more low rpm torque which is what you want with a diesel you use for work, cummins can be great for hot rods too if you're buying one more for fun

I agree with you that you can derive more torque from a 6bt, but thats all. i've seen quite a few duramax trucks at the 500k mark. its all about the maintanence. Saw an 07 two weeks ago where the guy was a parts driver and was driving from grand junction and back everyday and was getting an oil change every week. The truck had 620k on it and ran like a top. If you really want some power I have buddies that do the twin CP3 setups, turbos, trannys, and tunes. And i've been up with them on test and tunes and truck fest. A 10 second duramax is pretty impressive especially moving 9000lbs down the track that fast.
