Are you keeping that drive offline during normal use?
It's wise to keep it backed up to the cloud, and keep offline copies in case you ever get sucked into a ransomware virus/scam.

Plan was to keep offline in the very near future (maybe even by tonight). While I'm not computer dumb, I have little experience with this stuff, so cloud suggestions are welcome. My free Google Drive is already at 14 out of 15 gigs since I've had my gmail account since it was Beta.
Depends on the cloud and if they support versioning.
If your files get cryptolocked and they are sync to the cloud, they may be otherwise available in older versions of the files. for Onedrive, this only applies to edited version of MS office files. I did say keep them offline somewhere as well. I like having them in cloud storage so I can get to them from any other device (tablet/phone) in case the computer is down or being repaired, etc.
That said, I do unplug my backup drive after doing a backup and double up by saving critical personal files to a flash drive as well. I can get anything else back inside that 30 days, either photos from my phone, camera card, downloaded bank transactions, etc.
Hump day..:)
