So what breaks down first in the event of an actual ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE and why? the answer is ......................
Food. Hell a couple years ago during one of the rough blizzards where trucks were slightly off schedule, the grocery stores looked like they were out of business and looted already. That was just a disruption to the schedule.
Water. If delivery and supply was disrupted, LA's millions of people would be out of water in just 3 days. On day 4, people are killing each other for a drink.
Civility breaks down first as the realization that it is everyone for themselves sinks in. The first to realize it are the more aggressive, yet somewhat unprepared members of society, who realize that the Big dog bites first and lives. Those who are prepared will hold onto the notion that humanity still exists....they will be targets of the wolves. Everyone else are just sheep...
I think it would be utilities.
While these are all valid issues. The first thing to break down (as the spouse pointed out) would be Emergency services. EMT's fire & police, all front line responders. Like shown in the 1st & 2nd episodes. It's the emt responding to the issue gets bitten, same for cops and fire. They are the first to go & become carriers for said ZA.
Amenities / supplies follow closely behind.
IF for some bizarre reason (release of a mutating pathogen) were to start. The spouse believes no one would take it seriously, at first. In today's rapid information age. 1/2 the crap posted on YT or someones FB / Clitter/ blog would be watched more than acted on.
For some of us (newracer & myself) we have an easier time extracting from the area, then you metro folks would.
That's a good point, which I think allows us to "rack and stack" the major problems: If first responders stop showing up to work (either because they are afraid to do their job, or they want to protect their family) the issue will spread faster. As we saw with the ebola outbreak, it did seem that there were many who seemed willing to continue to work, and even a bunch of volunteers who went to "fight" it.
SPOILER ALERT!! (Tiny one)
Highlight to read it

HOWEVER, something the show highlights pretty well is when kids stop going to school and it sort of implies that a lot of adults are staying home from their jobs too. If I worked at a power plant, water pumping station, etc., I would be the first to call in sick to protect my family. If nobody is working the utilities, they will of course fail pretty quickly, which will then spark the supply problems for gas, food, water, etc. When the cop was loading the water into the trunk of his patrol car (presumably for himself) I wanted to reach through the TV and give him a high five. He is now more prepared than 98% of LA residents. [facepalm] I think another interesting facet to the show is the very realistic response of "cop shootings" etc. I think this might grab the attention of people who aren't big into "zombies" but see how realistic a riot scenario is and how quickly it can get out of hand.
Okay, spoilers done. I really want to slap some of the characters upside the head for their mentality, but the reality is that mentality is very commonplace in urban areas. Unfortunate and frustrating to the rest of us.
Second episode was much better than the first. Good to see it picking up steam.
I liked what Tobias said "When civilization ends, it ends quickly". It amazes me at how many people have zero preparations for any kind of emergency. Also highlights the need for a back up communication system. Cell networks get jammed up easily.
WEAK
It's ALREADY TOO LATE
