I don't see how this workplace violence article nails it or even makes any sense. How is workplace violence the real issue here?
It suggests we need to give more training to employers and employees about workplace violence as a preventive measure? This guy was fired in 2013. No amount of "teaching the public how to spot, prevent and defend against workplace violence" would help identify or expose an angry violent individual who was fired long ago. No amount of "professional instruction on how to talk with a troubled or dangerously angry co-worker" would have reduced the threat of violence in this case, he hadn't been a co-worker for a long time.
Workplace violence maybe a problem. And sure, maybe we need to address that problem more. But it wasn't the problem here. You can't even call it workplace violence when someone was fired years ago.
This guy was an angry racist bigot, pure and simple. This was a racist hate crime, not workplace violence.
PS - Everyone is completely ignoring the fact this guy wrote that what sent him over the top was the church shooting. That his bullets had the victims names on them. That the church shooter wanted a race war and that's what he's going to get.
His targets were people he didn't like from his past, but his anger that drove him to kill was very clearly based on racial hatred.
I thought it was good cuz atleast the article points out other issues besides that he used a handgun to murder them. The focus is always on the gun , not mental illness or warning signs that should/could have been noticed.
I do agree with Hollohas that this is closer to just murder. But who or what is going to catch early warning signs of people being "sick" ? The public ? Yea right. I have zero faith in humanity just from my drive home everyday.
This guy was a nut in so many ways, even using a different name to get the job at the station in the first place.
This is something that people can't understand, and really don't want to admit is out there in the world, so they'll fixate on the gun. It's easy. Kind of like going after the Confederate flag instead of dealing with racist extremist nutjobs.

As horrible as it is, it's more horrible because we so rarely get to see someone shot like this on live TV. If this had happened during an interview being taped for later broadcast I don't think it would've had near the impact as the live visual did (to the general public).
Just watched a short clip on the dad saying he will be relentless on gun control issues. Well sir, you realize a machete would have been just as easy of a tool to use since these 3 people had no idea the sick bad are was even next to them, and he waited long enough for her to get back on screen before he committed the crimes.
I thought he pointed, pulled the trigger, realized he was empty, racked, and come back up.
As as a society, we need to get rid of the idea that a child's self esteem comes before moral training. I see many parents who seem to believe their kids can do no wrong. Blame for failure, lack of attention span, inability to behave, is placed on others and or "conditions" that are beyond the child's control. They aren't held responsible for anything they do. Combine that with the relative morality that is being taught at schools and TV and you end up with what we have.
His response has been understandably emotional and very illogical. He said he's going to be relentless supporter of gun control and one of the examples he gave is he doesn't believe people should be able to buy guns without BCs. Well, I know his heart is broken, but the fact is the man who murdered his daughter passed a BC. If that's his new goal in life, it's misplaced and pointless as no amount of background checking would have saved his daughter.Quote:
