Heat guns are okay, but the cords and the time wasted messing with them sucks. Use a butane torch instead. 3M adhesive remover is one of the best products on the planet.
The best way to make sure you have all the glue off the paint, is to rub your open palm on the ground/floor and then gently rub your hand on the area you removed product from.
If you missed adhesive, you will find very quickly using this method.
A more advanced way to remove adhesive remains is to have a standard razor blade appropriately dulled. Each razor blade that you unwrap the little cardboard thing from, has two sides. One that grabs and catches on everything, and one that doesn't. Determine which side doesn't, and rub it back and forth on some scrap steel at slightly different angels in a circular motion for at least 30 minutes. It really sucks when ya break a seasoned blade and have to make a new one.
The blade I use for glue removal could be pushed down the hood of a car in the dealership showroom, and it won't leave a scratch.
