So far the magic combo I have found is the Dillon C powder funnel (made for the 30 Carbine) and the Lee collet crimp die.
Those two together make it so the coating does not get scraped or cut at any point.

I am just using the AK funnel, which doesn?t open up the neck. So I run a lee universal neck expanding die after the powder drop and then seater, with the crimp die as the last station. I am using a 650, which has the extra station to do it this way.
My supersonic go to is the Speer TNT and don?t have to open up the neck or crimp. So I looked and getting the expander was cheaper if I recall correctly than getting the drop tube you mention. And then maybe if I start shooting lead in other non-pistol cartridges I would have something for them.
Your way is more direct for those who lack the empty station so the way to go for most.

I managed to follow through with some "load development" I inadvertently got into last week when I realized I had made a mistake loading some shotshells. It came down to either completely tearing 50 shells down and recharging them with a reduced powder charge or opening them up and reducing the shot load. I went from a one ounce load to 7/8 ounce. In addition to correcting the mistake, I loaded 25 shells sort of as a control group. As reducing the shot load is a viable way to increase component economy, I was interested.
Anyway... Today I figured out that I need to work on accuracy before I can take advantage of smaller loads and tighter chokes.
It was kind of fun shooting powder puff loads though.
just shy of 600 pcs 308 brass on the giraud power trimmer. Now to locate another 300 pcs of 150 gr hornady fmj's, for my subsonic 308 loads.
Setup the 750 for 380 and ran a couple hundred. Smooth as silk.
Recently completed my 9mm 700x, 115gr berrys and win small rifle primer load development. I casually loaded 200 rounds for an extended test before going hog wild
Imr 700x hi-skor 4.4 grains runs awesome
Small rifle and small pistol primers are the same, dimensionally.
For high pressure pistol ammo they work fine. But for low pressure ammo they dont work well. The primer cups are harder and dont seal the primer pocket completely. You can get gas leakage and end up with flame pitting on your breechface.
I only sub rifle primers in top end 9x19 and 40 ammo.
Large rifle primers and large pistol primers dont interchange.
Yes that is good info about the differences in small rifle and pistol primers and something I considered as well. my 700x loads are actually a shade over hodgedon max. The main part of my testing was to see if I had primer leakage. Fortunately no signs of leakage. Also I wouldnt use my cci41s rem 7.5's or fgmm primers in place of spp just wsr, cci400's and rem 6.5 primers. I wish i would have bought more pistol primers a year ago haha
Just to add a "Me too!" This is why we used small rifle primers in the .38 Super back when the Major power factor floor was 175 (which meant I loaded to 180). With Major being reduced to 165, .38 Super can make Major with much lower pressures.
...and that I never knew. Now I do.
O2
I just used a 50 dollar off gift certificate with MidWayUSA from an optics purchase. I back ordered M1 Carbine mold along with some reloading manuals and some parts are parts for that caliber from Lee. I rather have the 311-121-RN-H5 4 Cavity RG4 PB from NOE, but back ordering this part is not an option.
I guess if I really, really wanted a NOE mold, I could just do the order 5 molds in that specific caliber and get in the mfg queue that way.
Now for the slow hunt for some gas checks....
General reloading question. Do you anneal your brass after every firing?
I've never annealed my own brass, though I've never reloaded the same brass more than a few times.
Good info, thanks!
Shit, forgot to turn off the tumbler.
200 rounds of 38spl 148 grain BBWC, 3 grains of Red dot and a Federal primer.
I have been spending quality time cleaning up the work area for reloading. I decided to start putting labels on the outside of boxes and containers so there is less of a where is waldo event when hunting for 'stuff'.
I just finished looking at the new caliber specific reloading guides to determine...nope - they don't have that, can't order that now.
I just got the shipment notification that my M1 Carbine mold by Lee has shipped...so come spring I can get back into casting.
Lost my coffee cup
Started taking inventory of all my stuff..... it's going to take years and millions of lives.....
Kinda like an archeological dig...finding stuff I forgot I had.
I rearranged a lot in my reloading room yesterday. I didnt realize how bad it was until the other day I opened a rubbermaid tub that had been sitting there for I dont know how long. In it was 800 rounds of factory .40 jhps, a case of 12 ga, 3 .40 glock mags and some other assorted ammo.
I cleared off some shelves and started sorting my pistol ammo, worked on sorting the boxes of bullets on the components shelves and seperated brass that has been rolling around in several different buckets. I havent loaded a round since going deer hunting in Texas last Thanksgiving.
Tomorrow I will sort shotgun ammo, hopefully rifle ammo as well. My goal will be to reload some by the end of the month.
Dropped a container of 1200 pcs of freshly cleaned 9mm brass in the dirt. [facepalm]
My shop has dirt floor except for office and reloading area. I put tumbler across shop from reloading area due to noise and its annoying.
Nothing. Just stared at the inventory. Trying to decide if i'm going to load .357, 38 or 308. My component privilege is such a first world burden .
I took apart a kitchen trash compactor to salvage the motor and gears, as part of my plan to build a wet tumbler that can tumble a drum the size of a 5 gallon bucket. The idea is to build it with free/salvage materials.
Its dumb that I'm working on this now, when I can't get primers and I'm barely shooting. Something to do, I guess.

Loaded a batch of subsonic 208gr .300blk, that ended up not subsonic.
I have the Harbor Freight dual drum tumbler and it works perfectly. The capacity is just barely acceptable for pistol brass, but it is really annoying with rifle brass. Whenever I get this done, I'll definitely make a thread explaining what I did..

I?ve got an amethyst mine. I had an air compressor fail so I made a open ended 60 gallon rolling tumbler for rocks but it would be fantastic for brass. The Trouble is that In polishing the inside of the drum for coating to protect whatever I tumble I discovered that it will hold over 200# of sand. Tumbling Media is lighter, but It will still cost hundreds to load with media whether I?m polishing rocks or brass. I built it for rock but I think it could tumble every piece of brass of every caliber I own at once.

It was 12gr of 1680 loaded to 2.24" COAL.
I was loading based on a bunch of targets I shot a few years ago and that was the load with the best group. I didn't even look in a book to see what speed that was supposed to be at.
I loaded some Eggleston (original) 200 gr projectiles at something similar and they were definitely subs, but had serious issues.
Hornady shows that load on the edge of sub/super-sonic. Maybe a half-grain less.... good info, thanks!
Out of a 10.5" barrel, by the way.
I didn't try too hard because that projectile is discontinued and I only had 49.
