I'm fine w/ not having motorcycle parking. I think it's ridiculous. We have like 20 unused spots at work because it's "motorcycle parking" and hardly anyone rides one to work. I parked in one (along with everyone else) on the day of a heavy snow storm. Security Forces left a homemade, typed business card (spelling indicating they were smart enough for the Air Force but not smart enough for the Air Force -- hence, sec fo...) saying we would be ticketed next time. If anyone's dumb ass is riding a motorcycle to work in THAT weather, they need their head examined.
Motorcycle parking is usually defined within the Base Regs. Peterson AFB stated it was to be in a convenient location - basically just beyond the handicapped spaces. Meant to encourage motorcycle riding.
Years ago, a new commander took over the motorcycle parking spots directly in front of the building I worked at, and moved it onto a sidewalk toward the far end of the parking lot so he and his staff could park up front. Riders started parking in regular spots closer to the building - usually 2 or 3 to a space. Car drivers then got upset and started complaining and leaving notes on bikes. Riders then made a point to arrive early and take one space per bike. After a few weeks, motorcycle parking got moved closer to the building, but not up front where it originally was.
When I park in regular spots - people get pissed because "I took up a whole spot". Can't win.
You could just park on the sidewalk like the other riders.
I ride and it bothers me to see bikes parked on a sidewalk in front of a business. Yeah, I get that leaving your bike parked in a normal parking spot puts it at risk of some idiot hitting it or something but I don't like when I'm trying to enter a place of business and have to walk around motorcycles to get to the door.
I haven't found too many parking lots where I couldn't find a place to safely park my motorcycle where it was out of the way.
Yea I don't Park on the sidewalk. Not what a sidewalk is for.
When I rode a bike, I'd park it towards the rear of the spot in hopes people would see it before trying to whip into the spot.
What kind of brain dead, mouth breather would complain about a motorcycle taking up a whole spot? It's a space for parking a vehicle. If a vehicle is parked there, parking achieved! It doesn't matter how much space is used. Are you supposed to park deep and then be boxed in?
People who don't ride aren't very tolerant of those of us that do.
I'm sure it's some sort of "ism" of some sort. As soon as I come up with a name for it, I'm suing.
