Stephen E Ambrose's D-Day: June 6, 1944 is a great read because it is mostly first hand accounts and interviews. I would highly recommend it if you have any spare time, and I know you do.

Pegasus bridge is also a great book . its about major howards operation on d-day .(first troops on ground in france , june 6 , 1944 ) .
