NETGEAR wireless router help!!

For some reason I have 30mb download speed, but my Netgear 824v3 router is limiting my wifi down to 9-10mb. I have upgraded the firmware, and checked everywhere that is limiting it and found nothing. If I hardwire into my router, I get the full speed. It is only over wifi that it is choking down to 10mb. I have tried the netgear support boards and found nothing that has helped, and my router is a few years old and doesn't have the troubleshooting warranty. I can either get a year warranty for $80, or just buy a new router for $83.

Any network admins have any guesses?

If I had to guess, it may be radio noise/frequency interference. This is a bigger problem on 2.4 GHz channels than on 5 GHz, but 2.4 has better penetration on walls and such. Maybe try changing the channel from the default to something else?

FWIW, I get around 90 Mb/sec hard wired to the router, and 18-30 over wifi, depending on which laptop I'm using and where in the house I am.

I looked up your hardware. It seems to know about 802.11b and 802.11g. If 802.11b is selected, that'll do it right there.

I have tested speed with laptop and Ipad/Nexus and both are close to same wifi speeds. So I know it's not the hardware in my older laptop and new nexus.

I have tried changing channels,
Frequencies - auto 108mb, wireless B+G, etc.
I've upgraded the firmware

Disable WMM in your wifi settings. I went from 18 down on a 2.4g network to 34ish.

On a 5ghz 802.11AC router i get 100mb/sec on my iPhone, same as my wired connection.

It gives priority to streaming media, but makes speedtests look like poop.

Sometimes there can be coexistence or interference problems that manifest themselves by a stepping down in throughput. Lower signal strength will also show itself with lower speed. If you're comfortable saying whether you're running Linux, Mac, or Windows, someone might be able to suggest a diagnostic tool.

Running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. The diagnostic tool show's system is working properly no errors.
