These people aren't defending their own properties? Put up a barbed wire fence, post a sign and then camp out with a rifle.
A coworker of mine is in negotiations with Spike TV right now to put up a section of his fencing system (he has a business for security fences ,etc. on the side) for testing/demo. (3 fence system with motion detectors on the outer fences & for underground and an electric fence in the middle)
Because of the negotiations with Spike and the contacts they have, the state of Texas is showing interest in having him put up some of this fence along the border. Apparently, more and more the states are realizing that the Fed won't correct the problem so it's up to them to take action.
I honestly believe that we could have major drug cartel and Mexican army incursions onto U.S. soil using full auto's and RPG's killing hundreds a day and the federal government would still shrug it off. Just my opinion.
Maybe we should move the House and Senate meetings to a location 1 mile inside US territory. They could camp out in tents at night. No additional security resources should be allocated in these border areas during that time(including Secret Service).
The powers that be (assholes) wont try to change anything until something happens too close to home for them. Maybe if a senator or higher ups kid or wife got murdered by a drug cartel. Then they will decide to seal the border.
No, then they'll just outlaw Yachts ... guns ... and Clancy novels.
In all seriousness, all that is needed for this government to decide to shut down the border overnight is for polls to start coming out showing that Latinos vote overwhelmingly for Republicans.
yeah right... now that mexican trucks are allowed north of the border, trafficking will only increase. Obama is importing violence - I wonder why...huh
For everything that is attempted to control border security, it will be always ham strung by one thing: Commerce.
Sadly, illegals and illegal goods tend to piggy back legitimate commerce routs.
And the reality is, even though most people don't understand what commerce is happening there, the U.S. would be hurt worse by limiting commerce then the gains from securing the border could offset.
I wish there was an easy solution, but a simple lock down really isn't as feasible and effective as its often made out to be.
Now, if we stirred the Mexican people to take their power back from the cartels and corrupt government that abuses them in a middle east style upheaval...
(I do, however, agree that individual land owners have rights. If your property edges the border, that does not invalidate your right to protect your property. "Sorry, asshole, you're not just in America, you're on my lawn")
