Archery Question
OK, I seen the other Archery post but didn't want to hijack his. I was a Bass pro Shop today and shot a few bows; Bear Encounter, PSE Stinger, Diamond outlaw. Not wanting to go over $400 - minus arrows of course.
I thought test drive and buy on Ebay, prob is they seem to be cheaper on Ebay but less items; quiver, different sights etc.
So I am wondering am I missing a really good shooter I haven't tested? bro in law has a switchback but can't find it under $400 on Ebay, so those named aside any suggestions?
Please only reply if you actually hunt and have downed your Elk, Buck, etc. need some real experience here....
Thanks,

If you can find one, the Bowtech Tribute and Allegiance are my favorite all time bows. I have found them on ebay bare in the $300 range and setup in the $400 range. Just me personal preference but strings are cheap and easy in any colors material you want. The 07 allegiance has always been my goto. You can find Elites in the same price range, check elite forums and archery talk. Elite was formed by the Bowtech engineer gone rogue. I personally dont like Mathews but some do, you have to change cams to change draw length. Elite z28 and gt500 are excellet shooters but also cam change. Bowtechs and diamond use mods to adjust and offer different pull/speed options (on the Allegiance/Tribute you can use smooth/speed/airborne mods and can really nail down the draw length you want cheap and easy. I would get a good used bow before a new pse/bear etc. I know 3 guys that bought new pse's and hate them and thats their high end bows. The new Bowtech packages run in the $400 range i believe, like 7 1/2" brace height, 34 ATA, and around 315 or higher when tuned with ibo shafts.

I picked up a great hoyt rampage off CL for a great price. If you test out a few bows from the majors (Hoyt, Matthews, Diamond, Bear) you can see what you like.
I actually met the seller at the bow shop and had it inspected before I paid.

There have been some good bows for sale here. Try CL.
I picked one up from forum member and couldn't be happier. With all the FS shooting bans, archery has filled the void.
Along with the bow figure in arrows, tips, release and something to shoot at.
Try some of the local archery shops. Some might sell used. I'm sure they all can provide better service and product than Ass Pro. I found that $400 was the starting point for decent bows.

Archery talk
Great deals on 1-2 yr old bows there. If you know you're correct drawlength and what you're looking to spend, search the classifieds there. As a pro, I got 2-3 bows per year. When I got new ones in I sold the older models here for less than 1/2 of retail. Pretty common still from other pro staff & shooting staff.

I'm going to bite my tongue a bit so I don't go on a 4 page rant, but I will say this, go to a REAL archery shop, don't waste your time or money at a big box store, I've seen VERY few big box archery departments that know their stuff and can correctly set up a bow. Go to a pro shop and get set up right the first time and you'll be much happier. Tell them your budget and they'll most likely have you shoot a couple (if not ask) find what works for you and go with it. (if they won't let you shoot anything, walk out and go to another shop).
yes I've killed multiple animals by archery MANY times, been hunting archery for over 15 years and also managed to take 2nd at the MN state indoor tourney when I lived there a few (6) years back. Sadly I haven't even owned a bow in the last 2 years since work and other hobbies interfered and it takes too much time and dedication to do it right.:(

I see that you live in Castle Rock. Pelligrinos is a great shop down in the Springs. You have Full Rut out in Elizibeth as well. First thing you need to know is what is your draw length. It does you no good to buy a bow off CL or Archery Talk if it does not fit you right. Like I said in the other post,I am a avid bow shooter and can help you out if you want.

I bought an older Browning Tornado few years back and took three bulls and couple deer. Spent a whole 180 bucks on ebay and put a 60 Dollar sight on it.
works just fine.
Then I bought a Z7 and took a cow first day out with it.
to me the new one is faster quieter cost tons more money and still does same thing the old cheap bow does "hits the Target".
Spend what you can afford they all work!
Good luck !
