What a bunch of bullshit. Couldn't have used a taser? Tired of these cops who are itching to shoot.
I guess the police were serious when they told him, repeatedly and loudly, to drop the knife. Maybe next time, he'll drop the knife, stop the threats and not advance on the officer(s).
Oh, wait...
Sorry. I'll save my outrage for more worthy events.
First, what the hell website is that? More booty shaking videos and rappers trying be all tough?
Okay, now, on to the story. His mother, saying it was a firing squad dressed in police uniforms, dumb. We don't have the full story about what happened and you can't hear every single thing that was said by both parties. It's hard to tell what prompted police to fire from that video... I won't rush to judge just yet.
Wow that was crazy. Seems to me that could have been handled differently but I wasn't there. Yes I realize he was told to drop the knife, but would a leg shot be out of the question here or is it shoot to kill in these situations?
Unless I'm seeing it wrong, it looks to me like the guy was walking away from the cops when then opened fire. As far as I can tell, nobody's life was in danger at that moment. It certainly did not look like he was "advancing on the officers" so I really wonder what caused them to start shooting.
Not passing any judgement here because I wasn't there and that amateur video probably doesn't reveal everything that was going on that day.
Also, maybe this is SOP, but after he had obviously been hit about 20 times, one officer just kept dropping rounds on him in a fairly controlled and consistent manner. Just making sure that the guy wasn't going to get up? Jittery on the trigger? SOP to empty the mag? Family said he had mental problems, which could have been mistaken for drug use I suppose and if someone on PCP was wielding a knife at me, I would empty my whole mag and put in a second one just to be sure. People on drugs have repeatedly not been stopped by a hail of bullets.
No. You don't aim for a leg (unless that's the only option you have...shooting at a threat from under a car, maybe - think North Hollywood shootout) nor are police trained to "shoot to kill". They're trained to protect themselves by stopping the threat and shooting at center of mass...the largest part of the target that presents itself...because a bigger target is easier to hit than a smaller target.
We only have a small glimpse of the incident through that video. OK...so they fired 46 times. There were probably more than 6 officers there as noted in the video...I counted at least 7. That's about 6.5 rounds per officer.
Probably not an appropriate time for a TASER, either. Beanbags from a 12ga, maybe. But not everyone has those.
Good luck with that sort of statement in court. Cops are NEVER trained to shoot to kill. At least none that I know of.
And there are two officers to the left side (in the direction Hall was advancing) that can be seen before and after, but not during, the shooting.
No more seat assignments for that frequent flier…
