Nope. I didn't serve though.
Pick a camo, Multicam seems fine. Bring back khakis for garrison.
Mossy oak!
The service specific camos was a stupid idea.
BDUs was the answer back in the day.
I'm not a vet either, but I never understood wearing camo full-time as a standard uniform, no matter where they are. Just seems to me that camo should be used when needed, and the rest of the time something like fatigues should be fine. Like it used to be, way back in the day. But WTF do I know.
The Air Force guys from the local base, when I see them in their bluish camo, I just want to giggle.
Slowly but surely they will all go to BROWN SHIRTS!
That's the plan.
Im so glad I retired.
So much $$ was wasted on the service specific camo. The AF still has different vendors making this stuff and the colors dont match. There's a gray version, yellowish version and then the greenish color. Its a joke. Now their gonna waste a shit ton more $$ with source selection, test patterns and of course the users have to buy all new stuff at a higher price. The AF knew their tigerstripe pattern, color was ineffective and wasteful but they went ahead anyway. There were several articles on it last year. They reissue the AF guys new Army ACU's when they get into theater.
Not at all. it was either BDU's or Dress Blues way back when.
Plenty of information on why here: http://www.hyperstealth.com/camo-improvement/index.html and if this becomes a reality it would be great: http://www.hyperstealth.com/Quantum-Stealth/
I see it as why not give our troops the best but at the same time how does it cost so much money to put it through trials. It seems the private sector already bares a lot of the burden on camo patterns.
No... just no! We want to look like a professional fighting force, not a bunch of back country sister loving hillbillies... [ROFL1]
Yep.
That's what I don't get... What was wrong with BDUs? Need to fight in the desert? No problem, here is our desert pattern BDU. It's not like we really "camouflage" anymore anyway- modern warfare is fought from big, noisy vehicles and dismounted patrols where we're not exactly hiding. The only hiding I've really seen are LP/OPs and Special operations, which they are not subject to the same uniform standards as the "regular" grunts. I would be all for adopting Multi-cam or just moving the woodland and desert MARPAT to all branches. [Beer]
I don't know, different camos is pretty fly!

The sad part is that after wasting millions of dollars on the service specific patterns, we're going to waste millions more on this "new" pattern. No way in hell will they do something responsible like pick Multicam.
Might as well have "equality" throughout, since DADT was abolished...
thank god we have finally come to our senses, all the budget woes have been solved.
be sure to have the lighter colored camo to wear in the spring.
we must have a diva on the budgeting board.
It bothers the hell out of me since I have to spend more money in new CAMS again!!! Those fucking things ain't cheap, and they don't issue'em to everyone but new troops and Drill Instructors!! The little money they give us enlisted, (officers don't get shit!!) for clothing maintenance is not enough to cover the cost.
When the Marine's went with their new camo design, all the other branches got jealous and needed to change. The Navy's "aquaflage" is the worst, next comes the Air Forces tiger stripe design, although at least they kept the same basic pant and jacket design as the old BDU. The Army's need for velcro just flat out sucks. I am hoping I stay in long enough for one more camo/uniform change and I hope it will be for the better.
I say bring back the old Nam-era green uniform, with multicams for deployment.
As long ad they got great guns and cool equipment that works well I Dont think the color of the camo means jack to most of them.
