Oh FFS...Vegetarians mad at Red Robin Commercial

What is it about people that get all butthurt about commercials? Seriously...who gives two shits about what a burger joint's commercial says about vegetarians? Did they really think that the commercial was going to say:

"We know you think we are animal murderers, and we truly apologize. We hate ourselves. If we weren't so greedy we would close all of our stores. But we love money so much that we just can't do that. We're big, evil, animal murdering capitalists. As a peace offering (and an attempt to get even more money) we will offer a veggie burger for those enlightened enough to see why being a vegetarian is the only way to live."

If being a vegetarian is so good, why do they keep borrowing foods derived from meat? Do you see carnivore tomatoes? Tastes like a tomato but is 100% ground beef! Crybabies that have no sense of humor need to go to walmart and chug a gallon of 'lighten the hell up cola.'

All I know is my wife tried to feed me a veggie burger ONCE. Only once.

My Fiancee is a vegetarian, has been for 1yr now. I won't lie, its caused tension between us and even started some fights because we can't just go out to eat at any restaurant. For instance, her food budget per month is about 50% higher than mine and it's because of the expensive "faux-meat" products she buys.

We have simply started cooking/eating our own meals, which is, believe it or not, exhausting. Sometimes, you just want someone else to make a meal for you. Whats funny too, is that she eats more "faux-meat" than I eat real meat.

Strict Vegan/Vegatarian diets are not healthy diets unless you supplement them with required vitamins and amino acids that are only found naturally/readily in red meat.

I find that generally, the angst is aimed more by those who cling to their red meat. I don't really care, nor do most vegetarians I know, care what others eat. Crickets, beef, snails, pork, have at it, it doesn't bother me in the least what others eat. However, unless those belittling the diet of others are dietitians that actually know something about essential nutrients, I'm going to have to dismiss the whole "without red meat you aren't getting a balanced diet" thing.

Look at it this way: the less meat I eat, the cheaper it is for others who wish to have it, a proverbial win/win scenario!

I may not be healthy based on what I've read here. Grab a pack and some good shoes, let's see how many 14'ers we can do in a week, loser buys the beer at the end, deal?

I have to wonder what has happened in society. It seems like everyone is up in everyone else's shit. Religion vs. religion. Gender vs. gender. Gays/lesbians vs. Hetero. Vegans vs. non-vegans.

What ever happened the live and let live?! Why is it anyone else's business what they eat, what they worship or who they snog? The right to swing your first ends where another's nose begins.

...and for the record, I have meat at least once a day (and fish does NOT count as meat in my book.) I've got a vegan buddy that comes over for barbecue once in a while, and I grill up kabobs and make tzaziki and we can all get along without stabbing each other with skewers. It is posible, but you wouldn't know it with the Squeaky Wheel Brigade.

Nothing has changed in society .. nada Zip... it's always been this way ...


the difference is that 20-25 years ago a story like this never would have been seen.. the TV would not have bothered with it and a newspaper would not have wasted the newsprint to print it on ..( unless it was a SUPER slow news day.. and then it would never have gotten past the local news.. the nationals would not bother)

but now every whiney little bitch has a blog and can make everything an "uproar" And net based news will " print it " since it costs them nothing basically ... and brings revenue generating ad traffic...

I grew up in seventh day Adventist family.. They are mostly vegans and vegetarians.. Some who are not, they only eat fish. I never looked forward to family pot luck! But I can say with obsolete certainty they are as if not more healthy than us bacon lover. Just boring!! ;)

i am a meat eater. Grew up with a side of beef in the freezer. "Fixing" calves at around 10yo. Have vegetarian, vegan and carnivore friends.

Between growing up poor, my time in the Army and dinners with Asian suppliers, I'll pretty much eat anything and don't care what anyone else eats. Self-righteous indignation is hard to swallow, though.

I assume you're talking about the budget. The nearest Whole Foods is 4 hours away. We have walmart. They sell a variety of faux-meats and when they're in stock, she buys at least 10-15 packs (at $4-$5 each) to "stock up". And believe it or not, she HATES salads. I could understand the food budget increasing due to buying fresh produce (which is more expensive than processed foods), but fresh produce makes up very little of the total food that she buys.

I have no problem with her choosing not to eat meat. It's the tension between us that is the problem. She rarely ate meat before, so I don't understand why she had to go vegetarian except to be able to go around saying she's a vegetarian. And I'm being completely serious, she would eat maybe a piece of chicken every 2-3 weeks, but she'd eat it and wouldn't have a problem with it. Now, we can't go out to a steakhouse, seafood joint, bbq place or anywhere that primarily serves meat.

You're just in better shape... diet not withstanding. There are healthy vegan diets where you can do the things you do, and there are healthy, uh don't want to offend but "normal", diets that enable one to do that kind of thing... Just had some burgers at the rodeo this last weekend with a pro bronc rider that eats a ton of meat, he just got back from a 5 day West Coast trip where he climbed a few mountains up in the Cascades.

Well, sure I believe it. Salads are just gross and unsatisfying.

Except....I was watching the Food Porn Channel and "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" was on. There was a very special salad that was topped with (homemade) french fries, slices of Prime Rib (medium rare and mortally peppered) and sprinkled lovingly with homemade Blue Cheese dressing. THAT was a salad I could get behind. :)

Maybe your lady simply hasn't found the right salad just yet?
