Ok, I don't get into any of the police bashing threads but that was complete bullshit to me.
Hold on. Hold on.... My popcorn isn't done yet.
Sent from my teepee using smoke signals.
...I am kind of shocked by what I saw in this video. Crazy things going on these days.
This is going to be interesting
IBAJ.
Lucky it wasn't his son or daughter running to him from the car. Not saying it would have ended up any different.
This isn't the full video... I'll have to look around for it, but he was disobeying the officers earlier, getting in the way, etc. That's why they went after him to begin with.
Not justifying anything, just pointing out that there's more information to this than the video.
In before the lock!!
Whatever reason they decided to put him in cuffs is whatever reason they did .... frankly doesn't matter when it comes to the dog being shot.
the dog lunged at/seems to bite an officer ... it got shot.. sad but true.
Owner seemed to know he was going to be cuffed when he put the dog in the car.. should have secured the dog better.
I'm gunna get flamed for it but...
OWNERS FAULT.
Very possible, I haven't seen the full video either but if someone is being a pain in the ass it doesn't take that much intelegence to deal with them and their dog before things get out of hand. He didn't seem to be combative at all and from the looks of it he didn't mind being arrested. I'm sure he would have been happy to roll up his windows before putting the dog in the car and then animal control could have swing by at their leisure. Hell, I actually support many of the instances where police have had to shoot someones dog but this doesn't look like one of them.
Yep, I agree on this one. Should have put a little more glass between the dog and the rest of the world, that's what I do with my dog- leave the window down enough so he doesn't cook, but up enough so he can't get out. Someone posted on FB about this today totally one sided saying that cop should be shot/fired... how? 130lb rott comes at a cop what's he supposed to do? And I love dogs. I'd have a hard time shooting one, though.
Never mind, I found the answer. "Lt. Swain added. “And I know it’s the dog’s master, and more than likely not going to attack him, (but) we’ve got a guy handcuffed that’s kind of defenseless. We have a duty to defend him, too.”" Just protecting the suspect, nothing to see here, please move along.
And people thought it was stupid when officers had to get training on how to handle dogs in Colorado. The dog was not aggressive at first and i was not there so i can not comment on the rest but it did not have to end like that. It was the owners fault in the first place though.
I Dont know all the details but it seems like the guy shouldn't have been there, the dog should have been secured, and I believe the owner to to blame. Unless more details arise
If what I see here is true then the owner was being plain stupid and he was trying to get a rise out of the cops. He Should Have secured his dog better. Next time I'm sure he will. As student of animal behavior, I don't see this dog jumping from the car in an aggressive manner. It wanted to be with the owner. It got freaked out once it was sprayed with pepper spray (that's what I saw anyway) that's when it became a bit unstable. But it still wasn't aggressive. The cop tried touching it when it was unstable and that wasn't a good idea. I think it does look like the dog lunged at the cop when the cop reached for it, but the dog probably couldn't see or smell very well. I've been bitten, it's not a life threatening event, especially with all of those people around to help you. The cop was in no way in the right taking the life of that dog, his life was NOT in danger and deadly force wasn't warranted. The officer acted in a very shameful manner and I hope that my life is never in the hands of someone so immature.
That's just a bad situation all around.
I am not sure why I watched that. I can repeatedly watch with no ill effect some scumbag get mowed down as he is shooting at police, but seeing that disturbed the hell out of me. Very sad no matter whose fault.
There is a big difference between having to shoot and having an excuse to shoot.
Maybe the dog looked like an injured elk that needed to be put down.
jk
A crappy situation all around. I'm not sure why the police feel the need to arrest anyone recording them. They're public servants working amongst the public. Why the need to arrest or detain someone with a camera?
Cali Cops are in a lot of these videos. Luv CO cops(for now)
Screw that guy, his civil rights bullshit and his dog.
Should have stayed out of the way, he was trying to raise a stink, and succeeded, but got more than he bargained for.
I've been told myself, play stupid games...
I've learned it's best to not choose a side in dog related threads [dig]
I saw that yesterday and thought about posting it, but seeing the dog get shot was almost too much for me. Something about shooting a dog erks me the wrong way. I'm not saying the cop was right or wrong, but seeing it was tough for me.
There is a lot of fail to go around in that video. Cops could have handled it different but at the same time if I had that big ass dog coming at me I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing. Ultimately though that guy was looking for trouble and got himself into that situation. In the end he is culpable for the end result in my opinion...
Everyone acting like the cops are trigger happy and just looking for an excuse to shoot the dog can STFU. The dog ran up to them and none of them paniced and start capping rounds at it. They moved closer together and then one of them tried to secure the dog. Shots weren't fired until the dog made some type of aggressive move at the Officer trying to secure it. More than reasonable. The guy getting arrested knew that his dog would start barking and try to get aggressive and he should have secured the vehicle better. The dumbasses recording this were even saying, "Let the dog out" as if they wanted to see the dog attack the cops. Also, in before the lock.
Opinions are like elbows. I think all the blame goes on the owner for being a dummy and asking for trouble. His reason for butting into LEO way was because there were no black cops? I feel bad for the poor mans best friend doing his job.
When LEO are trying to do there job, can they just be left alone? Folks that think everything needs to be "their business" really irritate the hell out of me, and deserve any legal ramifications that come their way.
Reminds me of about a month ago. I was exiting a king soopers, and from what I could put together, some punk had stolen from the store. When officers arrived, they searched his bag, and found a large fixed blade knife. While all this was going down, some nosey bit$% had her camera out and was nearly "in the mix", saying things like "don't worry man, I've got these pigs on camera".
Those officers showed more restraint than I would have, but I believe they were more concerned with the guy and his knife than nosey loud mouths with a camera.
Just seems like there is such a widespread hatred for law enforcement, and anybody will try and get them hemmed up, just for doing their jobs 98% of the time.
Dog attacked, they tried to subdue and then shot it. Looked justified to me.
As long as someone is on the periphery of where the police are working and are not interfering, why does it matter if they have a camera. Let them act like a Jr. reporter and shoot their video. BFD.
Maybe I missed it but why did they confront him and put him in cuffs? I had to have my sound down so maybe you can hear that in the video.
From what I've been reading in other comments on the video, he was for one blaring music very loudly during a police raid on some other house. They asked him to turn it down as it was distracting, but he didn't. I think he may have also been interfering in other ways, but not sure on it.
1st, easy there killer.
can I have a raise then boss.
I don't mind being video tapped as long as you don't interfere with what I'm trying to do. Except for consensual contacts, I don't just go to random people's houses while your minding your own business.
Sure, I agree, as long as it doesn't interfere with my duties.
First of all you should probably calm down before you give yourself a heart attack (not telling, just suggesting, wouldn't want you to get the wrong idea).
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough with my statement in regards to being videotaped, but I also don't recall EVER stating, you or any other tax paying citizen doesn't have a right to videotape, YOU concocted that assumption.
What I merely said, was it's annoying to me (personal opinion, am I not entitled to that, O lover of rights?), and many folks seem to be trying to hem officers up.
