There was a lot of fog driving from Broomfield into Boulder this AM, but it appears to be clearing up rapidly at this point, at least in my proximity.
I'm at work about 10 miles west of DIA. Still overcast but the fog is lifting.
Still waiting in DRO, no info whatsoever as to what's going on at DIA. It is United though, so it could be anything....
I work just south of DIA, fog has cleared, but if they backed people up because of it (it's been foggy all morning long) then you could be in for a long wait. Same thing happened to me coming from Vegas a couple weeks ago, a thunderstorm held be back 3+ hours.
Very foggy around there still.
yeah, it's foggy here still
I've always wondered about commercial backups into DIA itself from local arrivals.
I can see how it might back up the system nationally, bit it claims to have a Class III ILS system, which is capable of auto-guiding arriving aircraft right down to the concrete...intact. All the pilot has to do is manage the power and flap settings.
Not all airplanes are cat iii certified.
The local airports get hosed typically because ATC has less time to work them into the system for the necessary spacing and when weather moves in more spacing is required.
I wouldn't go that far. Performing an auto-land is a hell of lot more work than a "standard" approach and landing. Most people have probably never been on an aircraft that has been auto-landed because it's such a pain in the ass we avoid it when necessary. Separation is also a huge issue. When the weather goes down, the separation increases. Denver Center will limit the amount of arrivals allowed into their sectors.
Well, 2 1/2 hours late we're just taxiing in at DIA. Needless to say a our connection to Newark was missed and not sure how to make the international leg this evening. In it for the long haul now...
Still in line at United customer service.....
Heading up there now.. Bummer about your flights. I'll be flying for the first time with our 4mo. old next week... We'll see how that goes! [Luck]
Damn mother nature..
Made it to Newark. Unplanned overnight in Manhattan then on to Ireland tomorrow. Only bonus of it all is 5 first class seats over the pond.....
Well you got something out of it, first class will be nice for the long flight.
Dang you were on one of my planes. Be glad you weren't on the plane that broke down up at Durango today. Hope you make it to your destination.
Wow, that's huge on United, everything's always so jammed up and EVERYONE has status these days.
Business First or Full on First? Either way, I'm sure you enjoyed the flight much, much more than getting stuffed into coach.
I don't get upgraded often during busy business traveler times, but got bumped to Biz 1st on a 777 flight Chicago to Denver late. Lay flat seats in mini cubicles are the bomb.
