Running out of TP after a big green chilli burritto..
Internet outage.
Actually, serious weather events, mostly tornado or blizzard, given where I live.

I hoard phonebooks for this scenario.
But seriously... the way the government is seemingly "cutting back on spending" so drastically... it is either government economic collapse, or pandemic, which I hope to just be lucky.
^^^This mid to long term.
TP is very high priority on the list. [panic]
economic collapse and earthquake.
Nothing specific about the earthquake scenario, other than I wear a BOB to and from work. I should have resources with me to make it home on foot. (bridges collapsed, roads broken, fires and riots, so on)
Bad weather. Tainted water system.
we have 3+ years of Obama left this is a SHTF scenario
I also stock up on pine shavings and 10 gallon trash bags to put in the toilet bucket.
Just a thought as well... If you suddenly had no water out of the tap... do you know of any place to get water in your neighborhood to filter/render safe to drink????
when you are driving to/from work... take mental note of the running streams and if they are full of water at different times of the year.
Also, cattails are great sources of food. ;-)
Where I live? Urban unrest. "Justice for Trayvon" kind of shit. Prolonged power outages.
Economic collapse. I don't think it is "imminent" at all, but I do think it is inevitable since no will at the fed and many of the state govs to do anything but make it worse. Can be many possible tipping points - most likely to me is hyperinflation caused by inability to borrow the huge sums to keep funding everything. One the entitlement class stops receiving their free stuff, look out. While a race war may also be possible, I see this mostly confined to the larger cities.
Weather is top for me, with possible tornadoes in the summer and blizzards in the winter. Also been getting silver bars at a slow pace for possible economic problems, even been getting some 1 gram gold pieces and some copper rounds to have different types to trade with. Also started grabbing some items to help just in case of a massive disease outbreak. I hope to have at least some protection against a variety of scenarios. I watched a few episodes of Doomsday Preppers and realized that some of them are very prepared for one or two scenarios, but if something else happened they wouldn't be as prepared as they think.

I try to keep it as practical as possible. I prep for any event that would cause a failure in the supply chain for food, water, or other household essentials for a month or more.
Some things that could lead to supply chain breakage: natural disasters (fires, floods, snowstorms, cosmic events), unnatural disasters (riots, terrorism, political devolution, idiocracy), and the one thing that I am certainly NOT prepped for, but I do believe will eventually come: real economic collapse.
Like lots of folks here, my preps are slowly growing as I have the money. However, with a newborn in our family now, my vision of being a "Patriots" style commando has faded to more realistic goals of being able to provide for my family and survive whichever events I deem most likely to occur (which is a discussion all on it's own).
Noted. Valid point.
That is how I'm looking at it. I saw far too many on doomsday preppers with a narrow mindset about what may happen down the road. If their ideal disaster strikes, they may be ok. If something else happens, many if not most of them are screwed. You need to have a plan to dig in where you live, evac to a different place, whether locally or regionally. Food, water, fuel, and medicine are the big things, along with a means of communications. You'll also want a means to defend what you have, as well as aquire what you need. May sound harsh, but there are plenty of sheep out there, who may decide to try and be wolves when/if something bad happens. If you know what to do, they will remain sheep to the real wolves.
Am I the only one whose SHTF/World End plan is to go and take what I need from those that are dumb?
My plan is to shoot the looters from cover.
I'm not worried one bit. FEMA will be on the ground soon enough with food and water.
I will get a trailer and all the free stuff I need!
I ain't spending MY money on stuff others will provide me and my family.
Big Brother will keep me warm and fed....and 250 free text a month!
This page is definitely the best! I'm also slowly trying to cover ever scenario I can think of in order of which I think will come first... However that seems to change daily with different news that comes out... Hmmm us is pissed off at Russia right now... We live in Colorado... What's that dropping out of the sky? Name that movie... Look at my avatar for a hint... Haha ok probably not likely but I really am trying to be prepared for everything... A little at a time because everything takes money! The deals are out there I just take my time before I panic buy anymore crap!
My wife thought I was being silky when i started preparing for a zombie apocalypse until I started pointing them out everywhere we went... Well she still doesn't agree with it, but you get the point!
I won't post anything here because the alphabet crew is watching ;) They'll just turn up at our homes to collect our preps, to share with everyone! [Coffee]
Ok, so that I don't kill the thread...
I prepare the MOST for a personal threat presented against myself or family, while out and about... That's why I carry concealed to begin with. I spend several X more time shooting my carry gun, drawing from concealment, shooting on the move, in 2-4 shot bursts, reflexive/point shooting, etc. than I do pretty much anything else related to prepping.
The way I see it, even in every day life, without a true SHTF scenario occurring, having the skill developed to draw and shoot from retention, move while extending and continue shooting, is a fundamental thing that is helpful now and will invaluable in an TEOTWAWKI situation.
I am planning on the further degradation of the economy and the resulting crime wave that follows.
I'm planning on little or no official LEO support because I think a majority of LEO will bail when they get asked by the 'crats to commit gross offenses against the constitution. The 'crats will find people who don't have a problem violating the constitution so we'll have two groups to fight, the base criminal element and the appointed criminal element.
I think EMP or other nationwide attack is very remote because the elites don't want to lose their power and control, if the elites lost their power and control they'd have to move somewhere and be subservient to that countries elites.
EMP is possible via a non-domestic anti-government entity(we call them terrorists, the feds call us terrorists now). Pretty low tech stuff that can cause chaos. We're always a breath away from a pandemic of some kind. Lord help us if ebola ever breaks loose from Africa. There is new speculation the black death from the dark ages was caused from an ebola strain, not the plague. The death toll from those outbreaks speak volumes. Financially, our economy is a ticking time bomb. Look at other countries, and the disorder that came about from cuts in handouts, or even worse, collapse of the government. People here expect it cushier than overseas. Expect carnage when the FSA can't get their obamaphones and Obama credit cards to work. Racial tensions are brewing. Although such problems tend to stay around larger cities, look at Sarajevo, and other enclaves in the former Yugoslavia. Down the road, it is always a possibility, but kind of remote. Natural disasters, we have a slew that can happen. Some could be ELE. Mt Rainier, and the subduction zone off the pacific coast is one of the worst case scenarios we could see in our lifetimes. We could only hope kali. slides off into the ocean from the fault systems down there. New Madrid fault could rip the midsection apart. Several major cities are vulnerable to total destruction as of right now. Major snowstorms, flash flooding, twisters, and hurricanes as well. Then of course, there is Yellowstone. Aside from weather events and Yellowstone, major disasters that affect other parts of the country could directly affect us here. With such large scale carnage, people have to go somewhere. Dallas became a haven for some real scum bags after Katrina and Rita, and it wasn't safe to wander around after dark, and questionable during the day.
You have to plan for an event that may require you to hole up inside your house, as it isn't safe or possible to travel outside of your area. Power, water and phones may be down. You need to a means to overcome them.
You also need to plan for an event that may lead you to abandon your home. Maybe it was damaged by weather, etc, or the area is too unsafe. You need a means to travel out of the area, being secure in doing so, as you may become a target by different entities. You'll need food, fuel and water, and a way to communicate. You'll either be going to a neighboring town, or village, or a safe spot you have already picked. One there, you may need to be self sufficient.
Lastly, you want a plan for a situation where your entire area is too unsafe, whether it be political, weather, or geologic in nature. You may have to leave the area completely, and go to a different state or part of the country, where there may be friends or relatives that are allied with you. Such a trip will require you knowing how to find sources of fuel for transportation or having a stash to make it to your destination. The trip may seem like nothing more than a vacation trip under stress, to bordering a zombie apocalypse riddled with danger. Protection would be a must in planning, as well as being able to navigate without electronic help. In any of the scenarios, you need to know who is like minded and trustworthy, and pool resources in some situations. Phone systems crash during the slightest emergency. Phones and the internet can be turned off at the king's whim. If you need to evac the area, you'll want to let someone know you're coming. If you can't leave your house, you need a way to contact others.
Rember you can plan for everything and if you dont have water you are screwed.I have talked and seen some peoples preps and they dont store any water. They think they will just go to the lake or stream to get water. I dont plan for any one senerio just to keep my family comfortable if something happens.
My worse case scenario, Clydes is out of fresh sausage and my ravioli contact closes up shop. That's a SHTF Armageddon
Emp/financial colapse
I'm glad someone picked up what I was laying down, preparing for people who didn't take any time, effort, or money who wants to prey on others should be a factor. On a lighter note, I prepare for surprise visits by the mother in law by keepin a bottle of unopened alcohol in the house and at least two incomplete projects that I need to work on.
Biggest concerns here are:
1. natural disaster with several days/weeks without power, water, access to food etc.
2. lack of viable transportation when the above happens. No getting in the truck and driving somewhere or getting on the motorcycle and scooting somewhere.
So far I am prepared by having some backpacking stuff - but no long term water, food, etc.
The up side for me is it's just me and the pup - don't have to look out for kids, elderly family members, etc...
