Look at it this way: not a single one of the proposed federal gun control laws passed. No AWB, no magazine ban, no UBCs, no ammo registration, nothing.
The biggest victory they had were to push a number of minor executive orders that didn't do much. The biggest impact from that was that research can now be funded, and the flood of data released in the wake of that EO has almost uniformly vindicated the pro-gun side of things and made the Obama administration look all manner of stupid.

The fallout from this is such that the democratic party may very well lose their stranglehold on the Colorado legislature and governorship (assuming the Colorado Republican party extracts their head from their own ass long enough to win over some voters. )
Given the stridency and power of the tea party faction in the house, I don't have much worry that this tax proposal will become law,or even make it out of committee.
Are things perfect? No. But gun owners have much more political power now than at any time in history.

Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden says if Congress won't act on gun control, he'll fight for a new Congress.
Biden is unveiling two new steps President Barack Obama is taking on gun violence. The executive actions don't require approval from Congress, where gun legislation collapsed earlier this year.
One new step will curb the import of military surplus weapons. The Obama administration is also proposing to close a loophole that lets certain weapons be registered to corporations without background checks.
Biden says the steps are straightforward, simple and common-sense. He says Obama will act on his own where he can, but will also keep pushing for broader gun control legislation.
Biden spoke at the ceremonial swearing-in for Todd Jones, the new head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Its not gonna stop till they have our gun,Rights and freedom or we take them back
I do believe we may see a trend of people ignoring NFA laws and simply doing what they please.
