Ogden is probably the most liberal part of the SLC valley. There are way better places to live that are with in driving distance.
In Utah if it moves, kill it, if is in the ground, dig it up, trees are fair game.
As for living there, well, there are some nice places and Ogden isn't too bad. There are also a LOT of Mormons there, they stick together and they run the place. Lots of blondes too. You can get a beer at the strip clubs but no hard stuff but you have to join their club to drink at a bar. Great food around the SLC area and quite a few brew pubs to take advantage of and liquor prices from the gov' run outlets are reasonable for the most part.
Last two times I was in SLC area, I had absolutely no issue getting a stiff drink at a restaurant. Is there still a club system for bars only?Quote:

Like most states when you move there you have to get a permit from there (unlike drivers' licenses you can't just convert your CO CHL to a UT one). Thankfully you can get a "non resident" permit in Utah so you could just get your Utah permit in advance of moving out there. I also don't think there's any "must be a resident for X days before applying" crap like most other states.Quote:

I like Utah. I would consider moving there but:
1. My wife doesn't need any company.
2. Young guys with white shirts and ties are everywhere.

4. There are big box grocery stores that don't take credit cards.

Moved from north of there in 06. Worked in the Ogden area and lived north in Perry. Nice town, definitely has its places to stay away from, just like everywhere else. Cost of living is pretty similar. I really like the east bench of Ogden, old homes and nestled against the mountains. I would suggest looking for a place north and west of town. Plain City, Pleasant View, North Ogden, Willard, and Perry are all pretty nice little towns within a half hr commute. I don't care much for Davis County, south of Weber County where Ogden is, to much congestion.
Ogden has a great gun shop/range named Impact Guns,and UT is very gun friendly. One of the only states that allow an out of state CCW. CCW also covers knives bigger than 3.5 inches to. Concealed Carry Weapon. I've spent quite a bit of money at Impact and never really had a bad experience there.
If you like Arvada, you will like Ogden. I am LDS, and it seemed that Ogden is one of the few towns that if you are not a member, we don't bug you to much. If you are into skiing, Powder Mountain and Snow Basin are not very far.

I don't see any reference to anything under 3.5" being legal. Utah doesn't technically permit concealed knife carry unless you have a permit.

Utah is not all that bad. I lived there several years. I agree though, try to go North or East. The drive will not be that bad. I actually miss a lot about Utah vs. Colorado. The mormons are the majority, but they are not bad people. Do they knock on your door? Sure! Who cares! They are always friendly and they leave when asked.

Yeah...I guess I don't get the whole "there's a lot of Mormons there" sentiment. It seems to me that most Mormons believe in self-sufficiency, patriotism, conservatism, strong family values, helping others...I can see why people dislike them. Not liking or believing in the faith I get.

At any rate I could see it being a slight problem if your a non LDS and you want to live in a small, rural LDS community ... you'll always be the outsider there. But Ogden and the SLC metro area is HUGE and very diverse (I hear there's even black folk there!).
You're probably right about that. On the other hand, I tend to exclude people from my circle of friends who are leftist or anti-gun and who have no intention of converting. I think everyone does it to a degree over some issue or another.
