Thanks! Will have to check it out.
Too early to set it to record on DirecTV. Should be there tomorrow.
The teaser website immediately turned me off (pun intended) on this. Fox news broadcasting that the east coast is out of power followed by the rest of the country? What are they using to broadcast and who is able to watch? Even if those receiving are just to the few that are prepped, how are they getting that signal out? Power down means the internet is virtually off, and there is no way a generator will operate a high power antenna, certainly not across country. Watching the little news feeds, days 3 and 4 have the same dude in the background, bouncer one day, delivering a pallet of water the next. Day 8 has a hottie fresh from the hairdresser (again, power?) interviewing a prepper announcing to his neighbors "come and get it". And I am not searching for errors, just cruising the site. Bah. I know it is just entertainment for the stupid people, but.... they could have spent some money on and expert or two. I hope the show is better than the website.
backup generators. almost all news stations have them.
They run massive generators just like hospitals, and other essential services do. regarding the signal, in todays age they bounce them off satellites, which in turn are received by end users on, cell phones, tablets and if the end user is running on a back up power supply their radio or tv.
During 9/11 land lines worked, while cell svc didn't for calls back east, in some areas.
The Dude in the back ground was more than likely doing "task other than assigned" as with any job now a days.
There are numerous threads in this forum regarding back up power, what if's, etc.

Meh, All these shows just like "Doomsday Preppers" are out there to entertain, so therefore they add as much drama into it as possible and find the most extreme cases to show. That does not mean that I cannot learn something from it to add to my plans.
Just a thought. I ignore all the stupid stuff and look for something I can learn.
I'll be watching.
It'll probably be as sensationalist crap as Doomsday Preppers is, making preppers look nuts and in general doing nothing to help people really realize they should be prepared. I'll probably still watch it, but don't have high expectations. Just hoping to learn a thing or two more in between the "extremism" Hollywood like to air.
I want one. :D
Not to derail the thread, but has anyone heard if the folks trying to make "Lights Out" into a movie have had any success with their funding? Now that's a movie I'd like to see and I think it'd make a great mini-series! Mix in a bit of Rawles' "Patriots" stories, and I think it'd be a winner! But not for the masses of sheeple probably.
They were in town for the survival expo.
ARF htf has links.
All the above. I had posted in the thread regarding the prepared expo the Lights Out crew was there, shaking hands and raising funds. Seems a bunch of arfcom members were used for the gun scenes.
AAA has a big diesel generator for power outages. I was there one time when the power went out and they immediately got on the phone to secure a place that would deliver diesel on the regular as long as they needed it.
FIFY
There's a finite amount of local and regional fuel storage and when the infrastructure breaks down over a bigger area, and the local reserves get used up, that diesel delivery won't be so regular.
FWIW, AAA Colorado used to be a client and their infrastructure kinda sucked. Pretty sure they also only have one genset, and we all know that 2 is 1, and 1 is none.
I believe that only CNG is going to survive long term as a viable - renewable - and easily transportable, self-sustaining to it's own infrastructure, fuel.
For the average Joe, you're fucked because retail pumping stations aren't going to have power to deliver the fuel to your tank.
Thank you Brutal. Having a big gennie and having enough fuel to run it two weeks with little to no fuel replenishment is very different. Most of those huge generators that were so politely posted about are intended to run for hours with fuel on hand. Maybe a day. Longer will require fuel trucks to deliver. In the situation described, I doubt Fox news will be selected as a critical function over a hospital when fuel supplies are thin. And don't start with the suggestion that there will be plenty of fuel. All the situations we have experienced to date were localized (think Katrina) and there were bulk supplies in unaffected areas (surplus) that was shipped in. In the description of the show, everyone was affected. There is no cavalry coming, you deal with what you have on hand.
Just set the DVR.
I couldn't understand why the toilet wouldn't work. And I didn't double check but it looked like there was a display on the digital thermostat. I'm still going to watch though. I briefly (for now) scanned through their preparedness tips and didn't see anything about self defense.
No water coming into the house no toilet unless you manually fill the tank
My digital thermostat runs on batteries so the display still works when the powers out
