Unit # and hunting questions

Pardon me, I've never been deer hunting and have some questions - I do have the Hunter Education Certificate card, need to know more.

So, am I correct that Parker is in Unit 104 for deer hunting? Looks that way to me from the GMU map on the CPW website.

I'd have to get what, a license or a tag? Specify the Unit # and whitetail or mule deer? Choose buck or doe, or is that just whatever they give you?

We have friends who own 10 acre horse properties, with deer hanging around. IF they gave me permission and I got the orange vest and proper license/tag, is it LEGAL to shoot a deer on a 10 acre property with other houses around? Proper safety and shooting lanes, of course, no high powered rifle either.

Sorry for what may be obvious or silly questions, but I really don't know if you can shoot a deer in someone's yard (in the country, out of city limits), or if you have to hunt on other kinds of land only.

Oh, and are you limited to only one deer per year or season? I really am clueless.

Rondog, you need to study the big game brochure carefully. Deer licenses are available by draw only, the application deadline is early April. You've missed your chance, even on your friend's private property. There are very few leftover deer licenses available.

Your best chance to hunt big game this year is to get an over the counter bull elk license, or a leftover cow license. Suggest you visit a wildlife office tomorrow morning if you want to hunt second season which begins Saturday. They can help you with options.

Bummer. What's "draw" mean? Like apply for one then wait and hope? And does that have to be done for every unit you're interested in?

Yes legal to hunt there, over .240 caliber required, and orange hat to go with vest. Im told the camo looking ones are not legal in CO.
Cannot shoot from or towards maintained road, towards occupied (maybe any) house. 10 acres would be a bit tricky with those requirements.
Limitations, etc, pickup a BIg Game Brochure and start reading, slowly, and re-read. Its complicated and confusing all in one.
License/tag interchangeable.

I have 52 acres(borders BLM) in unit 85. I could prob kill a deer with a rock. But yet to draw a tag.

You need to check the county and state firearms laws as well. Generally, if you don't have 40+ acres, unincorporated, you will not be able to discharge a firearm. Archery is a different story.

Since we aren't in city limits here, we are good to go. From what I have been told, people don't like to have their house shot, so we do have to choose our shots well. Every once in a while when we shoot trap someone calls the cops out and they shoot a few rounds with us.[Beer] Douglas County is pretty cool when it comes to guns and shooting.

The deer tags we get are management tags and are open from October to Dec 31st. Doe's only. I will ask our game warden about the orange hat, I wasn't aware of that requirement.

Ron, I will get you your voucher in the next day or so. I am thinking we should plan on taking your deer sometime next week. We have a couple of guys filming this week and the weekend I have a buddy coming down with his 12 year old son to shoot his first deer. My sons archery tag is inactive til Nov 6th or 8th, so next week should work out well. There is about 20 of them in the pasture right now...

I know another guy that pops deer off his back porch, and he said he has to orange-up to be legal too. Even on his porch. He's on 5 acres, surrounded by neighbors, and uses a .300 Savage. His shooting lanes are downhill into a gully though.
