Is anyone else having a hard time finding all the components they need? At the moment, I can't find CCI #34 or #41 primers. Midway USA and Powder Valley both have powder and bullets (with a minimal wait) but primers are getting real hard to find.
I suggest we use this (and other) thread(s) to post where components can be found. Anyone like that idea?
I'm definitely behind that. I'm watching for CCI 41NATO, 200, 500, 300, and 350's.
Also need to locate an RCBS Carbide 3-Die Set in 9mm Luger (I have a 9mm Luger SWC, but I haven't used it yet but it's not for FMJ, just SWC - need dies for FMJ). Think I'll also put a post up in the Wanted section.
Green Mountain Guns has had primers, last I was there, had several 5000 count boxes on the lower shelf.
few gun shows back, I watched a guy buy 15,000 primers in one swoop. I guess he was stocking up for a rainy day.
9mm dies rcbs, I just recently ordered them from midway, arrived quick and price was reasonable on sale... $38 or something like that...

Redding 9mm carbide 3 die set is in stock at Midway. Thanks for the Green Mountain primer tip. I'm looking for CCI NATO #34 and #41 (who isn't?)

I put some CCI41 and CCI 34 on backorder with Powder Valley on 3/12, The Big Brown Truck just delivered them. Seems that backorders are starting to clear.

I've about given up on the shops in town and am impatiently waiting for Midway or Cabelas to get primers back in stock. I've called some of the shops and asked them if they would set 1000 or 5000 aside for me if I gave them a CC# since it's a 2 hour drive drive down to some of the shops and I don't want to drop $60 in diesel to be told "we just sold our last box" and they refused to do it. So they lost 100% of my business which amounts to $1000+/- every 6 months or so. Oh, well the small business will be the first to fold.
Seems pretty harsh. Midway can't get them, Cabelas can't get them, the local guy can't get them... Look out on gunbroker.com - there are plenty there that won't cost you the diesel to get them... they are reasonably priced too $124 thousand plus shipping. (humor, but true)

I don't get the whole 'gotta be mil spec' primer lust bit. No one is using sealant or crimping their primers, so why all the bother? Buy, load and shoot what you have.
I will agree. I have bought a couple K of wolf primers to try and picked up some bullets from a supplier that still has good prices. I have been set on brass and powder for some time. Last .308 brass was $80 per K for processed and the last .223 was $65 for 3K of range brass.Quote:

Many threads on many boards about new guys getting into reloading. This is a good thing but there are some that buy everything in sight if they see it.

I do not know about the "gotta be a mil spec primer" but I do have some and I do have ammo that is sealed. I load ammo for the short term and the long term. Long term ammo get's sealed on the neck and primer. Some of us old guys remember.
Agreed, 100%. I figure out how much I need, how much I have and buy just a little more but never cases of stuff and that's now what's screwing me since I don't stockpile. I have no clue what the mil spec thing is about but I seal EVERY case, some of my stuff may get fired in 2 days of 2 years. I never know so I do the full meal deal on all of them.
I can understand how you feel but we have to put ourselves in their shoes for a minute. I am not saying that you would do this but there are people out there that, after giving them the CC number, they won't show up to pick up the merchandise. This puts the business owner in a position of disadvantage since they can't make you pay for the order you placed. Even if they charge the credit card, the card holder can dispute the charges with their company.Quote:

Cysoto, the way I handle it is like this. "I see you have a website, do you ship? Yes. OK, I'm headed your way and I'll be there in about 2 hours can you pull XXXX off the shelf for me. If for some odd reason I don't make it can you just ship it to me? Yes, but we won't charge it to your CC and hold it." Maybe I'm just dense but if they ship items they can surely charge it and let me pick it up. Cabelas, Bass Pro and Midway will allow you to place an order either over the phone or online then pick it up at their store.

sorry to bring this thread from the dead, but a new reloader has some questions and comments. first of all, on the walmart having guys buy 14 cases and etc, i actually talked to a walmart guy about this. he said he will leave after his night shift, with the order set to arrive the next morning, and by 11 am everything is gone. this is the case for .223, .45 and 9mm the most. its nuts. i wish people would wake up. the problem is craziness fuels craziness. since a few people do this, then everyone has to to try to get their share as well, others who knows when youll find it again.
for me it really bites because i got into reloading to save money and have some fun, well im sure its fun but i almost don't even save any money anymore. the only place i can find large pistol primers for my .45 is on gunbroker where they are INSANELY high priced. plus, id like to buy powder and primers in stores since it won't cost you the high shipping fee. but ive literally called every sports/gun stores i can think of in the denver area and every single one says the same thing. even if they DO get a shipment of primers in, they're gone in minutes.
so my question is, how long do you really think this will last? should i just bite the bullet (no pun intended) and buy the crazy high priced primers? otherwise i don't think ill ever get to shoot. i bought 1000 .45 plated bullets for $110 or so, which wasn't too bad, but can't find primers anywhere but online (even powder is more or less the same). whats a guy to do?
I just bit the bullet and bought CCI primers for $0.075/primer at the gun show. No one seems to have primers (does anyone have a source?) and I wanted to get started already.
Holy sh!t! That's $75 for 1000 primers. I paid $30 for 1000 CCI primers just 4 months ago. I'll wait until the hysteria dies down.
The CCI Nato primers have a harder cup, to prevent slam fires in tactical guns that have a free floating firing pin. Have that happen to you one time and tell me if you'd want to use nothing else. It'll scare the white off you (if you are indeed white, lol). I had it happen to me ONCE on a worn out WASR, and I nearly wet my pants. Blew a portion of the colt carrier clean off, along with the upper dust cover.Quote:
