Something not quite right here...

That's the new Ultra Compact run flat spare, right?[LOL]

i was pulling a car on a tow dolly behind a uhaul once and had a flat on the car tire that was rolling. of course, you can't see what's going on back there, and the rim looked like that when i stopped--just the beads were left, but no damage to the rim!

This one is a bit warped. Might balance out but probably not.

Hey, what's the big deal? It'll only cost, what, $500-$600+ to replace that wheel...[facepalm]

Probably more like $900-1200. Send it over to Woody's Wheel Works, they can fix it better than new...
-
Not to mention $200+ ($250+?) for the tire. That's a hell of an expensive flat tire.
People can't do much for themselves nowadays, can they?
-
You can't even say - 'it's only flat on one side!'

The tires for my 335 were $400 a pop...

Its a BMW, its not sold to people who know how to drive a car.
Its the people that then drive on the space saver spare for weeks on end that really make me wonder. Saw one a couple of days ago on a ice covered road, obviously _not_ headed to a tire shop ...

On this topic...
Is it true cars with x-drive never need a rotation? Cause "the system is so balanced."
-
Well then all 4 would be down to the bead and not just one.

Completely not true.
That said, the Euro cars are now coming with different tire sizes front and rear so too bad about rotating. Though I have had cars come in with a "weird noise" in the front end after getting the tires rotated somewhere else.

Good to know. The dealerships don't know what they're talking about then...
ETA: Which is what I suspected ;) This does ensure that you need new tires sooner I imagine...

I know some folks that recently bought a brand new Volvo. When they were getting ready to drive the car home, it dawns on the guy something seemed weird when he looked in the trunk earlier...he didn't see a place for a spare to hide. So he asked the salesman to show him where the spare was hiding before he drove home. The salesman said "right here" and uncovered a can of fix a flat. When he pressed the salesman on the fact that a can of goo wasn't a spare, the salesman said that he didn't need one because they provide free road side assistance. I guess most people can't change a tire anyway so some manufactures don't even bother including spares anymore. So dumb. The guy went out and bought a full sized spare to keep in the trunk.

On the vehicles with run flats you don't get a spare for BMW. But some of my customers have swapped to standard tires because of price and ride comfort. The M cars came with fix a flat for a while too.

On Euro cars I recommend a tire rotation every oil change. On shorter interval oil changes I say every other oil change.

looks like one of those run flat rims!

Got to spend a day behind the wheel of a M5 at the BMW Performance Driving school in SC. Best time of my life. But if you can afford that car my guess is you don't ever change your own tires.

Was it a young lady in dark gray Saturn sedan? I saw one today.... On hwy 36.... driving 70+mph as I was coming down the hill from Superior into Boulder. I avoided her to say the least.

On occasion, yes. Most of the stuff is pretty vanilla. Porsche 911, Audi A8, BMW 550 and the like.

Nope. But there is no shortage of low IQ types that fit my description.
