Where does it say free? They must be hurting to get numbers back up so to have more weight when lobbying. Didn't seem to help last election.....

Even at my age I just got a Life Membership 2 months ago.
I had stopped being a member about 8 years ago because of the reasons guntroll mentioned, but I finally decided that the NRA was compromising simply to keep us from losing everything. While I disagree in principle with compromising on the "shall not be infringed" aspect, I figure it's easier to eliminate the infringements than it would be to try to regain the Right when it is lost completely.

Don't join the NRA, sell your guns and go buy some Airsoft. Some people a F4&king retarts. If you own and enjoy guns Join the NRA. There are alot of benefits of being a member.
Look into the organization. Look at others that are out there. The only thing that one ups the NRA is the lobbying power. Their are orgs. more true to the core of the "second" than the NRA. The NRA lobbies really well but gives into, and budges to get victories. I support the cause not the org. Like I said thanks for pointing it out for those who want to join. Its a good deal and worth it. Just not for me.
Sixgun, tell me what deals you get being a member? List all the ones that stand out to you. And don't spat off the propaganda your feed. I'm not dull. I was once a member and know the benifits that I had. Tell me the ones that I didn't know I had....You probably love the stickers right? Got one on the back and front of your ride? Uh hugh.

Went to the "Friends of the NRA" Pueblo dinner last night. It was great to meet some new people that are passionate about their guns and rights. I got two stickers myself! Those are good benifits indeed. There is nothing wrong with the NRA in general. I just got a sour taste for some reasons allready described and some not.
I'd like a list of what all of the other gun organizations have accomplished over the years. I see all the faults in the NRA just like anyone else, but I've yet to EVER have someone give even ONE single example of what another group has done.
I would rather support an organization that compromises and deals to get stuff done, than one that is purist and accomplishes nothing because they cannot compromise. Win it all (unlikely) or lose it all (very likely).
Holds true for more issues than guns, for me.
However, where is it written that you can only join one organization?

See, I actually disagree with this. I'd rather support the non-giving group (and will very soon) but those groups do not have the membership size that the forgiving group does. It is hard to argue that the NRA has won what it has, because it has chosen its battles wisely though.Quote:

The reality is multi-faceted. We need organizations such as the NRA, GOA and RMGO to keep tabs on things to assist those of us who cannot hover over the sites and lists that show new and pending legislative action.
We cannot simply idle and wait for them to tell us what action to take or simply rely on any one source. This is a multi-front battle for our rights.
So while folks want to demean the NRA - go for it, I'm not their biggest fan either - they serve a useful purpose. The free membership is a good way to at least be part of one of those fronts. The rest, well most of us would like to think we're active, but honestly boys and girls, when was the last time you pulled face time with your elected officials? If you've done so, bravo.. the majority cannot be bothered with the effort. Something is better than nothing, even though we all know more must be done.
So get off your high horses about the NRA, they are a tool, much like the other local and national organizations. Use them and use them hard. But you'd better damn well step the hell up and make your voice heard, otherwise you are but a digit in the database and not being truly counted!
I have a different take on the "free" part. I think it is like any lobbying group-- what they need most is MONEY to sway the politicains and reach more people to gain influence. If you believe strongly in the cause they promote, you should be willing to pony up cash because the liberal anti-gunners have no problem supporting their agendas as evidenced by the last election.
