Hey Guys,
So, I've been trying to research the past few weeks on a decent scope for a .22... My brain is on overload. I keep leaning towards the Leupold rimfire series since I've used their scopes, etc... but the price tag... The Bushnell has piqued my interest... however, I do want something that'll last a while and is precise... What scope do you use and WHY?!

What kind of shooting are you planning to do? Ranges? Target sizes? Do you want to dial for elevation, or will you be holding over or shooting at point blank range? How much magnification do you want? Variable or fixed power? MOA or milrads?
I bought a used Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x14 because I got a screaming deal on it, no other reason. It might be a little long but other than that it's a good scope for it's purpose on top of a 10/22.

Dial for Elavation:... not sure, I've always held over cause I never understood "turn three clicks for 3 feet up" or whatever.

Mil/Mil is really nice Bear. I love it because there is really no math or conversion needed. I too had some trouble doing MOA on my first scope now they are all Mil/Mil fixed or FFP (first focal plane). The advantage to having you reticle match your turret is not to be understated. I wish I knew a music analogy for you but I'm not smart enough!
I would recommend the SWFA 10x fixed scope (they also have 6x,12x,16x,20x). They only cost $300, are strong, have good glass & turrets and have parallax down to around 20y. If your looking for variable they have those for extra cash. I would bet dollars to donuts that some of the nice people here on the forum would let try out some glass, and you know you can always go to Hoser's match for some scope fondling. Just stay away from those S&B scopes, unless you have an extra kidney on ebay.

Its Mil/Mil and FFP. At $230.00
It isn't nearly as clear as my PSTs, or even hold a candle to my Schmidt/Bender, but for the price, its pretty clear glass. Tracks well and holds zero too.
I have a Mueller APV on several 22lr rifles. Low cost and work great.

Looked through one at Cabelas, decent glass, not too big, side parallax. They have a 2-7x32 version if you want something smaller, less magnification.

I put a Bushnell Elite on my wife's .22 and it's pretty nice. 10x, Mil/Mil, it holds zero and tracked well when I tested it. Used it at a p-dog match when they were at WHAC and had no problems with locating the 30yd or 150yd targets.

I wouldn't go less than 10x personally for a gun that will get used at 100+ yards.
I have a leupold rimfire on my 10/22. 2-7 if I remember correctly.
I have an old POS $40 4x fixed mag Simmons from the early 80s on my 10/22 and have shot squirrels, gophers, rabbits, paper and infidel clay targets out to 100 yds with it. I'm a huge advocate for the cry once principle, but in this case and for what you are using it for, just put a basic $50 4x on it and shoot the piss out of it. You will be fine.
Recently went through this same drill for my M&P 15 22. Didn't want to sink a lot of money in to the scope, since I would be replacing it with a SWFA 1-6x. Rifle's purpose was primarily as a training tool.

Another good option is the Vortex Diamondback line. Doubt parallax will be much of an issue given your targets and ranges.

SA Friday, I am of the same mind on teh buy once, cry once philosophy. That being said, I'm never sure what exactly I'll be doing with the .22lr. It is a semi-auto configuration, so I know I'll never be "top shot" doing benchrest competitions or whatever. However, I would like the ability to shoot at those ranges if need be or it's desired. That being said, I have been looking a lot at the 3-9x scopes... lots of options... whew...Quote:

Well, I think I settled on the Mueller... TONS of positive reviews out there... We shall see. Going to go on top of a TacSol X ring... we shall see.
BTW, the 18th is my Bday, I'll prolly be out at the South Site with the wife busting some clays if anyone want to come out and bust some with me. Prolly throwing some arrows as well.
