Repairing carpet, or hosed?

So on the rapidly escalating costs of Charlie the German Shepherd. Fuck whit roomate had moved his kennel back over the carpet off the tile of the front door (which we never use.) He didn't shit last night at bed/this morning and sure enough while at work he went ballistic trying to get out.

From the tile, carpet got torn out about 3inches out across 3 foot and then an irregular triangle sorta shape. It ends in like a perfect right angle so I think it's where the sheets of carpet were rolled? Seems like fairly common shaggy long length cheapo carpet. (Rental property) Can't find any spare when I thought we had some, may be in attack once I check.

Assuming I can find spare, replacable/patchable? I'm dreading an answer because otherwise it's the same carpet pretty much uninterupted all through the first floor and side rooms....

Right now in the debate of getting rid of the dog. Resisted beating the shit out of him. He's crying and low crawling and being well aware of the shit he's caused. Feel like it'd be cruel to ditch him when he's been training well, very bonded to me, and now has this condition that's going to add to his monthly expense few others would be willing to deal with. Fiancee says get rid of him of course.

She also suggested trying to extend tile out, which I kinda think based on pic is not a good idea. (Edit) Attachment 40337

If this incident is cause to get rid of the dog, you shouldn't have one, OR the girlfriend. Carpet wise replace. One suggestion. The room mate is responsible for the chain of events. Had the kennel been kept WHERE IT BELONGED. This would not have happened.

If you can't find extra, "steal" some from a closet and put something else in closet. Maybe cedar, vinyl or laminate.

I did explain some of that to her. She freaked out and thinks it means replacing entire house carpet since it's all the same uninterupted. (Also though house we buying a few loose shingles meant imminent re-roof) Overreacts on stuff like that.

Roomate's fairly optimistic. I had same issue a few years ago in friends house with a roomate and her Husky. But I tried doing it.... ugly. Will hire someone to do it, just need to find the stuff.

I'm just as much to blame, I shoulda put him back on the tile, but he'd been so good. Think his antibiotics rather than causing runs seems to have stopped him up.

It'll never match but you can have it patched. I'd never accept a patch in that area on any property I work at since it'd never match and be obvious, and that area would tear the seam quickly due to traffic.

If you do have it patched do it quickly and let it match wear for a while. You might get it to slide by.

I've patched a ton of carpet and that looks like a pretty easy pattern to match, but I don't think it's really a do it your self job if you want it to look good.

tablespoon or 2 of canned pumpkin to start him off with, should loosen up .

What happens when he is not in a kennel? I have had a few shepherds who did not do well in a kennel. I have rescued two who were better off outside a kennel. I know that doesn't help the carpet situation, but I am trying to think long term here.

Don't stress over the carpet. It can be patched, even if it has to be pulled from a closet (as stated above). If the person doing the work is of adequate skill, the only true giveaway will be the difference in wear, as wulf202 stated. Figuring out what's bugging/stressing the dog should be of higher priority, IMHO.

Bring a piece of the caret to a carpet store- should be an easy repair.
How long is the shep in a kennel? At night is one thing for crate training, but they tend to go buggy otherwise.

The carpet shop on 34 (next to KTM dealer) hooked us up. We had some carpet laid in the basement. We asked the installer if there was anything that could be done where our lab chewed a hole in the middle of the living room. We had some remnant left over from when the house was new. He made a patch and I cannot tell you where it is. That was 6 years ago....

Around 8 hours due to work. 3 Times a week. Then roomate and I have different days off so usually he's out most of those 4 days. He sleeps with me at night. Talking w/ my boss a ex K9 trainer he's thinking it's more seperation anxiety.
Left him in unfinished basement today crated and he was howling within minutes of me leaving.

The crate was only the short term just in case option until I get moved into my house I'm buying. (And can't risk him tearing up a door frame here.)

With the seperation anxiety, I'm thinking I need to work on him crated when I'm at home too? On carpet front roomate did find what he thinks is a exact match at home depot. If just close then the steal from quiet corner and swap out will be way to go.

I'll look into this guy on 34, nice and close sounds like.
