I toured it a few years ago and thought it was worth the 2.5 hour drive. The LDS family that owns it is very pleasant and more than willing to answer questions about the silo as their home and prepping. There was no religious overtones when I toured. I just wanted to put this out there is case a group from COAR might be interetsed in a tour.

The Windsor site is a coffin style, missile on its side which stands up to fire. It isn't that deep in the ground. I haven't toured the deep style silo.
Some of those deep silos need continuous pumping to keep the groundwater at bay. There are a few that have flooded since decommissioning that are now used for diver training.
There is a Titan silo, in Denver, that's free to tour. I think it even has a pool at the bottom. [Peep]
Can we see any pictures or anything without going there?
I know the caretaker passed away last fall, and the silo / campground was closed. I wonder if they have made new arrangements yet?Quote:

Yes, there are several Titan 1 missile silo complexes in Colorado, one is out by the old Lowery bombing range, another two headed east and the one in Deer trail. The are the first generation Titans that needed to be raised, then fueled, before launch (15 min). By the time they were complete they were obsolete. The Titan 2 came around, they could remain fueled and fired out of the depths of the silo saving precious time.
Scary and dangerous places to visit not to mention illegal trespassing. We had a club in the early 70's called the Association of Secret Silo Hunters Organized for Launch area Exploration and Search, or A.S.S.H.O.L.E.S. for short. They were fun back then, I don't think I'd do it now. Lots of missing flooring, cave-ins, water pools, deep drops and dark as hell. If any of you out there have been in those sites, and it sounds like at least one has, you are an honorary ASSHOLE. Congrats!!
The Atlas site in Weld Co. was a great visit. The county used it for record storage and civil defense after it was abandoned. The tour guy was kind of quirky but really knew the history of the site. Sorry to hear he has passed on. He had lost his co-worker in the tornado that went through there several years ago, he found him dead in the truck afterwards. Sad story.
Yea I'm an asshole for more then one reason. Went to the one by the Aurora dump a lot and the Deer Trail a few times. Tried to get into the one out further on Quincy but never could.
10 year thread bump. I'd still like to visit the Weld County site, but I have not yet made arrangements. Any tips or suggestions from those that have?

It's worth the tour plus, it's close to Vestas's wind turbine manufacturing plant. Cool to see from the missile site!

News today about a kid that fell 40 ft into a silo in Arapahoe county and had to be rescued. Probably an antenna silo or part of the powerhouse. A fall into one of the missile silos would be deadly. All sorts of junk in the bottom of those things.
I called just now. They said they don't do that anymore and that Greeley took it over. Will have to try and call tomorrow
