ya, thats right down the street from me, been watching the smoke for a while now
Thats the same apt complex that my family and I were driving past 2 years ago when someone in a blazer tried to take a 4 yr old little girl. My son sprinted across the street and grabbed the child and ducked around the corner. I spun around and got car in between them and my son and covered him with sidearm. Wife was on phone to police the whole time. Blazer took off and the police said it and the plates were stolen. The mom and dad of the little girl were in a apt and didn't even know she was outside. I know we took a big chance but I also know what we were looking at just wasn't right. Didn't even think, we all just reacted. Glad we did.
Ow, bad day for a bunch of people who likely do not have insurance.
edit: condos not apartments, may well be insured (owners generally do, renters generally do not)
Shit... One of my closest friends has a sister that lives there.
Looks like her condo is one that went up in flames.
You'd be surprised at how many condo owners don't have insurance either. The master policy is through the HOA and covers up to the drywall. That usually the only policy the mortgage company will ask for so people just never get their own policy for contents and the drywall in. Renter's are CRAZY to not get a renter's policy for how cheap they are.
Wondered what the pall of smoke was.
Hope all are safe, possessions can be replaced.
Just saw this. Yikes. And Ghostrider, holy smokes great story!
I think I live within feet of Ghost Rider, but not home to see smoke.
Dang, that really sucks. One of the worst things that can happen to your possessions. Hope everyone made it out safe, that is really the only thing that truly matters.
I'm going to second Dave_L about how cheap a renter's policy is. I never had one when I had a bunch of roommates. We did at our last place and I think it was MUCH cheaper than cable.
There was a apartment fire in Aurora today as well... WTF

Condo insurance is just as cheap as renters insurance.
I was there today at 3pm just blocks away facilitating an annual meeting with one of the people on my caseload.
The chopper was right above the house we were at. Could hear it the entire meeting, smelled the smoke, quite overwhelming.
Just hope everyone got out.
My buddy lives in the building next to the one that was on fire... crazy stuff.
